Forgive me for asking this, but where are the sliding hangers usually mounted on the doors? Obviously the top as apposed to the bottom, or sides; but are they usually at the ends of the doors, near the ends, or spaced approx. 1/3 the way in? If anyone has an idiot's guide how to link, or other tips; they also would be much appreciated. Hope all is well with everyone, and thanks for reading.

A lot depends on the length of the track.

Near the end usually works. At the very end will can give you issues with conflicts if the track isn't way long. In too far can give you issues with balance, door will move up and down instead of just sliding along the rail. Let's say the door is a six foot wide one. I would come in six inches from each end so that that the carriage is carrying enough weight to travel smoothly in the track. Unless of course the track is too short. Then one end can have the carriage located in closer.

One of the things I try to do is use another track on the bottom of the door. At the end where the door slides into I install a bracket that goes up into the track. This keeps the door vertical and it provides an anti-theft device into the mix. At the other end I install another bracket so that when the door closes it is also grabs the bottom of the door..

Now if you want good security and a way to confuse the thief install one of those hockey puck locks. It works like a fire hose in a water gun fight. I'll see if I can remember to take some photos.

Off the top of my head, I believe that I usually mount the hangers onto the doors about four inches in on each side. I do not know of any best place, so I just put them where I feel it will look the most natural. I've only done 4 of them, so I'm not much of an expert.

A lot will depend upon the width of the door, the width of the wall and the length of the track. For example, we have a shed 12 feet wide and a door opening 5 feet wide in the center of the wall, that leaves only 3 1/2 feet on either side of the door. The track is 8 feet long, so in order to enable the door to open far enough to allow us the use the five foot opening, when opened, the door must extend out beyond the end of the track and the wall. Do the math. We have had no problems with balance nor operation.

On my 12 foot door, I put the rollers 12 inches in from the ends. They have worked well for 20 years or so.

Each door is 5' wide, door opening is just under 10', hangers are around 6" in from side of doors. The hardest part is trying to weather strip them, but that's only needed in colder climates.

Near the end worked for me. image-1018924966.jpg image-3357898098.jpg image-2745908688.jpg
The doors are 6 foot each. I believe I put the outside edge of the hanger about 4 inches from the edge of the door.

I usually go in 8-12" from each side.

There are several types of trolley mounts and brackets, and that may factor in as well.
