This may be a dumb question, but. . .

Has anybody used Slime or a similar product in truck or trailer tires at highway speeds? I don't really know anything about the product, but it seems to me that maintaining wheel balance would be an issue. My problem is cactus and mesquite thorns. Right now my boat trailer tire is flat, and one of my truck tires has a slow leak (again). Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I haven't used any of those products that way but I do know that at least one manufacturer lists a whole bunch of automobile and truck tire sizes on their website on the page showing how much of their sealent to use with the various sizes.

I won't swear to it, but I think it was the Amerseal website. I know you can get their product under the Masterseal house brand at Tractor Supply Co. stores.

Gary,

Thanks! That answers a lot of questions. I'm headed to TSC!

I use Amerseal in my tractor and CATV tires with no problems at all. They do tell you how to use in your
on- road tires and balance is the major issue.

Like Gary said, Amerseal says it'll do great things in truck tires; run cooler, last longer, etc. Since it's a liquid and can spread inside the tire, it won't adversely affect balance. I haven't used any of the liquid sealers in tires on the road in about 15 years, but at one time, I had a guy talk me into testing his product (and now I can't remember the name of it) by putting it in my 3/4 ton pickup tires, my motorcycle tires, and my daughter's motor scooter tires. There were no ill effects, but I did have a flat (about a 10 penny nail) in one of the pickup tires and as long as the truck was run regularly it held air, but leaked at that puncture if it was parked more than 24 hours with that little puncture not on the bottom. So I decided that particular product wasn't worth the money. If I were going to be driving my pickup off the road much around here, I believe I'd have to try Amerseal, Slime, or one of the other brands.

Well, I went to TSC and they hadn't heard of Masterseal. Perhaps it's a regional thing. Anyway, Slime cautions against continuous running of the product at speeds of 75 mph or more, and says that the product may adversely affect the balance of highway tires. I guess I'll order direct from Amerseal, after asking them a few questions.

It might be regional or old stock. I just looked in the 2001 TSC Blue Book and it's listed there. My 2002 edition is at home so I couldn't check it for you, sorry. /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif
