could i use this on a 1000 pto to not damage 540 pto equipment .will if just keep slipping to keep from damaging the equipment or work as a torque conveter and power down the 1000 pto ?

I would think that as long as the splines of the slipclutch fit on it, you *should* be able to adjust the tension on the springs to work for whatever attachment you use it with. The clutch shouldn't care what the rpm's are, only the amount of torque being supplied.

Ditto that.

If I understand your question, it will run your attachment at 1000 rpm until the load gets high enough to slip. When it starts slipping you will smell it and probably hear it. If it keeps slipping it will wear out quickly. It will not convert torque in any useful way.

A slip clutch is not a speed reducer.

We've seen many things that were built for 540 rpm run at 1000. I don't know what your particular application is but caution is the key word.

Actually, it seems like I recall there are PTO (internal) gear reduction drive kits for some tractors. I also think there is an external gear reduction deal that someone offers that will fit certain tractors. I don't have any links for either one of those since I've never had a need for either one.

I always thought a slip clutch was an adapter to slide over the PTO shaft to keep a bush hog or other equipment from pushing you into a ditch or lake if you didn't have a 2 stage clutch in your tractor. Someone correct me if I am wrong. It will not decrease yout PTO rpm's any.

slip clutch if well somemodel they vary sorta , like if you hit a rock or somthing instead of binding up etc and damaging your gear box,pto or tractor it allows the pto to slip instead of contuing to turn.i figured it would allow be to use faster rpms or hp and if it got to much or to a breaking point it would just slip

A clutch is used for engaging and disengaging a drive line.

A gearbox (speed reducer or multiplyer) is used to change the rotational speed of a drive line.

Each is designed for a purpose and you really can't use one for the other.

As Art pointed out, you need to be very mindful of the consequenses of using a 540 rpm implement at 1000 rpm. Rotational (kinetic) energy (K) is proportional to the square of rotational speed (w):

K = (1/2)*Iw^2

Double the speed and the kinetic energy stored in the implement is multiplied 4 fold, so any mishap (thrown blade, etc) will be 4 times as powerful. Also, a machine that is well balanced at 540 rpm may shake violently at 1000 rpm.

What do you want to run from your 1000 rpm PTO?

Yes.

No.

It will NOT limit it's output shaft speed to 540 as you take it's input shaft speed up above 540 - if that was your question.
It WILL limit torque and by so doing limit potential damage to both the implement and tractor.

From you post it is not clear to me that you understand much about torque, force and work.

It will not limit "work", only torque.

Never mind i found out about the bush hog model 3210.I was having a time finding a non folding 1000 pto rotary mower . BUt bush -3210-sctuhlte fx 210-New holland 770gc makes a non folding single deck mower . Im going with 3210 for the simple factor it has a 3 point hitch .
