Slope Tractor Question

   / Slope Tractor Question #11
45 degree slope?

No fkin way would I traverse a 45 slope unless I was on foot with a string trimmer. Your C of G is way too high is you are on a machine...

I cut grass on a 20-30 degree slope with my ride-on and even then, it can get light on the high side if it comes across a rock (that is with my butt up on the high side of the seat too!)

I have seen machines used by the county but they have concrete counter weights on the high side... They are being phased out now in favour of a long reach flail mower hanging off the side of a standard tractor...

That 45degree power trac looks cool but I still wouldnt do it!!

At 45° with the Power Trac, the problem is not tipping but if the grass is at all wet, they start to slide down the hill so you are traversing across the hill by crabbing (tractor angled partially uphill so that you make up for any sliding downhill). These are extremely stable machines. It is amazing the bucket work on slopes I do that would have tipped over my conventional CUTs on much shallower slopes. Pretty easy to switch between dual or single tires (takes 5 - 7 minutes total). Very nice tractor for in the woods and for plowing snow, great for bucket work, and do not destroy your lawn either. Not the best choice for lots of dirt plowing for crops.

A couple pics to show the inclines I mow with my B7610,

These are the back yard, the snow pics are the front yard.

My front yard at its steepest grade approaches 25%, there is no way I would even attempt to tranverse it, however my 7610 go's up and down it without any difficulty what so ever.

the tires are not loaded.

I think a bx would work fine for you. I have a 2350 and I have had no problems with bottoming it out or ripping stuff of out from underneath it. I also watch what I am doing to the point of I see something sticking up that might pose a problem I take care of it. I have had mine clearing scrub brush in the woods behind the house and up and down stream banks without a problem. It is a decently stable machine. I would be worried about sliding on wet grass thought with that kind of slope. If you cut up and down with the bx you should not have any problems.

SIR,
whatever you decide to buy, move the rear
tires out as far as they will go, and install wheel
weights. this will give more stability than you
would normally have. good luck.

Hi Tim,

Your front yard would be very easy to go sideways on with my Power Trac. One could even use the bucket if kept reasonably low. I love the safety factor that tractor provides. Was getting tired of having a rear wheel lift in the air when on a slight slope even though the tractor has a heavy counter weight and wheel weights.
