Slow hydraulics in winter

Your hoses should be fine..( the the oem ones were sufficently rated when you got it.. many i see are 4Kpsi minimum.. ) the pumps should pump about the same psi.. just more gpm.

Yep.. 13 seconds is pretty dismal.. considering this one from 1955 makes it to full lift ( 10' 5-3/8" ) in less than 10sec, 3000# breakout force, 1200# lift, 4gpm pump.

. The specs also say the rated flow is 8 gpm and max. press. 2200 psi. The raise time is 5 seconds----I tried my raise and it's more like 13 seconds----looks like it needs Viagra (hahaha). Guess I should be looking for a bigger pump. Not sure about pumps. Would a bigger pump put additional strain on the hoses and other plumbing---do they need to be upgraded, or not?? Also planning to add a hoe someday ----probably around a 7' footer. Should I get a pump based on the probable flow rate needed for the future hoe. My first job is to change the fluid. Will flush with kero, or can I use the "red" diesel fuel I use in the engine. It's a little cheaper. Also, what to do with 4+ gallons of UTF???
Thanks again, George

Hi Rob,

Good to see you are still alive and well and posting great stuff, as usual. I'd like to contact this guy but can't reply to him from the link you sent about the pump discussions. Maybe you know how to do it and can tell me. His name is Ken and when you go to his profile his email is hidden.
Thanks, George Roma

Matthew:Just a thought but have you made the internal tank strainer removal mod that some of us have done? We cut off the threaded end that holds on the internal suction strainer since it tends to come apart (poor adhesive) and the holes are very restrictive.Once I did this, I did notice a slight improvement in overall performance of my system. I also changed out the external spin-on suction strainer near the pump.I think Tim and Larry also did this. My filter/removal looks like this.http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/...om/albums/m304/ducatisti750SS/DCP_4402.jpgLet us know what happens. I am getting a 320 pump from Tommy as well so my 314 will be a backup...or I'll sell it cheap to someone who might need it.Ken

George,
I sent you a PM with Ken's email and phone number. I just had to check with him first ... to see if it was OK to do.

grsr3,

My tractor(kama 354C) has a 314 pump, koyker 160 /2" cyl.

Front loader speed is very good. If I used the tractor for a lot of FEL work I might want the 316 but I doubt it.

Hi Chip, hope business is going well for you. I've got 140 hrs on the 354 so far. Haven't had any real problems. I adjusted the valves over the winter. It seems to start a little easier now and will rev to 2400 rpm even when warm. I had to make a new gasket for the lift box and fix that this winter also. so far this spring i haven't managed to break anything yet.

Just a little update there.

Try using ATF. It's an expensive hydraulic oil, but sure does flow in cold weather. Also does not foam like some other types oil, and a terrific lubricant. Seals that tend to harden and crack can be softened up as well with the use of ATF.
