I was told in another forum that lawn & grden tractor sales are slow. Does neveryone find this to be the case? My unit I am going to sell is a J.D. X585 w/25 h.p, w/4 whl dr, hydro & 54 deck. I am going to move up to a compact and assuming that I am realistic about price (I'm in central IL) does anyone have an idea how long comparable units are on the market before selling? Thanks in advance for any replies I get.

Lawn & Garden tractors are taking a beating in sales, the trend is for people to shift to ZTR mowers.

Hagman,

I was the one posting about the slow LG sales that you cited. I should expand upon my comments slightly. In my area, not saying every area, sales of small lawn equipment in certainly down. Several dealers with whom I am friends say this. It is true for mowing: the ZTR's are taking over sales, but that said my dealer can still move X series machines, just not as quickly as last year. I think you can sell your X series tractor. I do not think you will likely get quite as much as you would like for it, but I could be wrong. A lot of it depends on how long you are willing to wait, or to what length you are willing to go to sell it. You might come out better if a dealer could sell it for you on commission, rather than trading, or if you could advertise it here or on another equipment site. I am NOT a fan of EBAY for this type sale. I think those folks that buy X series machines know what they want and will look until they find it, and that could be your machine. I think, though, to get close to what you want for it, you might have to be patient.

In our part of the world, this year L & G sales WERE slow-we had a late Spring, but our Sales year-to-date are way ahead of last year's-we have already sold more ZTR's by the first of June as we did all of last years-we sell very few Riders any more-
