I would love to sell you one, I will send you a PM. I sell these Tanks head over heels and I just don't have warranty problems with them...not sure what those other dealers are doing?!?!

That dealer might not have the market to sell them in the first place or enough profit margin??? who knows , I haven't heard of any troubles myself??

jjj With that size lawn and your health conscious outlook why not use a REEL mower. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Gas is going up and you could knock off a mile or two on the jogging deal... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

My new 757 JD ZTR will mow at nearly 10 mph. I did not believe it would but it does. Now granted the terrain has to be smooth, but units capable of going faster will generally be more efficient than slower ones, even when not mowning at top speed. There are several times already when I have touched 7,8 mph while mowing then slowed down. The fact the speed is there does mean something. To me, the Scag or any commercial based unit within reason is the way to go. They generally have better designed decks and higher blade tip speeds so they will mow faster on varied terrain, even with a smaller deck, because they are made for efficiency. I mowed my neighbor's five acre lawn yesterday for him (he was out of town) in two hours, going around trees and dealing with some hills I do not care to mention. He returned today and asked me how long it took me to do such a "great job". He was shocked at my reply as with two small Honda riders and a Massey 252 with a 7' RFM attached it takes him (and his family) four plus hours.

I have a Gravely 17-hp with a 40" deck. I timed myself last week and mowed my 1.1 acre lot in 55 minutes. There are 3 buildings, two patios, flower beds, and I believe 21 trees. I also stopped to chat with a neighbor for a second and again to catch a small snake and throw it out of harms way.

My point is that if you are only mowing .8 acre why spend $6000 for an 'overkill' mower when you can buy a smaller one and spend the cash on other toys. The Scag will barely be warmed up and you will be finished.

I won't disagree with the a machine like the Scag or the M48 being overkill for less than an acre. But if he wants the 10mph, it's getting in that price range anyway. Even at 7mph though, if you're planning to push it, I wouldn't see the $3K machines being right. Many of the $4K machines seem pretty solid, but still use tranny's with little known life data. So $6K doesn't sound so bad for a lifetime machine.

With the 6 month mowing season around here, on less than an acre, I'd want the $2K difference for other toys. But if 10mph makes this a special toy, why not go solid through and through! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I would look at the quality of cut first and foremost.

If mulching is a possibility, You will need the extra horsepower to do the job in a reasonable amount of time.

Speed is not of the greatest importance to me, but quality of cut & dependability , Last, but not least, is the availability of parts as well as Good Dealer Support. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

ok - I'll post a follow-up now that I've made a purchase.

I went and looked at the Hustler Fasttrack, the Exmark and the Scag Tiger Cub.

The Tiger Cub was the fastest of the three. I also rode each of them and looked them over for quality of construction.

I purchased the Scag.

IMHO - the Hustler and Exmark were "chinsy" looking and did not appear to be anywhere near as well built as the Scag. One dealer in Delware had all three in stock so I could compare all three side-by-side and ride each within minites of the other.

The Scag only has a 48' deck, but I mowed about 70% of my yard last night at WOT and it looked great.

The Scag is comfortable, well built, has nice feature and does a great job.

I am very happy with my purchase.

I am glad you got the Scag. I think they are good, durable machines. The most important thing, the wheel motors, are of high quality and should last you many years. As I stated before, there is no overkill in buying a quality piece of equipment. You did good on this one.
