Yes, Northern Tool lists 6 Hatz diesel engines in 4.6hp for $1329.99 to 10.5hp for $2299.99. Probably the 7hp for $1899.99 Item # 606720 is what you are looking for.

I have one of the monopod "Whacker" brand foot compacters. It has a Yanmar diesel motor on it. I am not sure of the hp though. They have been around for some time; I got this one used, and believe it is 8-10 years old.

The reason for the inquiy is the B&S gas motor on my Generator is getting long in the tooth and I wouldnt mind swapping it out for a diesel engine.. I also wouldnt mind a small diesel engine to play with with some pet projects.

Darn it Dave, I stayed up half the night reading that guy's stuff and all his links!

It tends a little toward wild eyed enthusiasm but then so does anyone ahead of his time.

I'm fascinated by this simple technology. One of his links is running a summer fuel blend up to 80% biofuel / 20% diesel, for several years now.

Do you think the simple diesels in this present thread, and the oil furnace in you prior thread, could run on a high % blend of waste oil assuming proper filters?

Probably most Diesel engines with darn good filters will run on the "bio-diesel" mix. Will probably need some diesel mixed in by what I've seen.

My furnace probably won't run well on bio-diesel because it does not scavenge the combustion products as well as a diesel motor does. I'd be concerned that a soot build-up would eventually kill it off. There are probably some types of oil fired furnaces that would work--open burner type. In fact, if we weren't using California specified low sulphur Diesel, I'd only run kerosene in my stove.

Bio-diesel is very well filtered vegetable cooking oil. Mostly using a waste cooking oil from fast food restaurants for deep fat fryers--i.e., french fries.

I don't think that will work real well for you. Gas generators generally run in the 3600 rpm range to produce power and the diesels generally run around 1800 rpm.

Most of the small diesels I have seen so far are 3600rpm. Even if they are smaller then a couple of pulleys will solve the problem.

Here is one that may suit your purpose>

The Yanmar on my compactor says "3100-3600rpm". I used it today. I did not see HP rating on it. I'll look some more tomorrow.

I do not know about other little diesels. This one though, has no glow plug. It has a compression release, which is necessary to turn it over. It starts pretty easy.
