Small chain saw

Derek,

I have an Echo CS280, very similar to the <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.echo-usa.com/prods_item.asp?Model=CS-300&Category=CHAINSAW>CS300</A> except that it's orange. I have owned both that saw and a CS 4600 model since the late 80's.

I've used both of them extensivly over the past decade while clearing off those 5 acres of southern VT property I've got. My Echo saws are certainly no throw-away type chainsaws. Neither one has let me down or needed any type of repairs. For years, nothing other than fuel/oil and chains.

If you think a top handle saw is what you want or need, you'll find it great to have around. The one I have is lightweight, balanced and starts easy. I find it nice to use, especially for brushwork and pruning. I used to leave the small one at the burnpile for trimming while using the larger saw to limb out the tops.

From what I've seen Husky has a top handle saw too. The 335XPT. One of my catalogs lists it for $399.95

I've got two Stihl saws, a 028 and 009L. I used the 028 for a long time before I got the 009L (actually it was a xmas gift form wife)

I use the 009 for light work and limbing. The 009 is a top handle saw, and I would not give up that saw for anything. It's balanced just right, and has plenty of power.

Sure beats humping the 028 around, when the 009 will do the job.
