I'll be posting a review and photo thread when the tractor comes in.

There's no way to rig any kind of position control for the J Series tractors. The 3pt lever works like an auxiliary hydraulic lever. There is no way to rig a stop that I can conceive. It really wasn't that big of a deal to me. I never used position control on my last tractor.

Ok. I'm back with photos of the G3033H position control. This is a manual position control with turn buttons. It mimics the old position control from the Farmall Cub, Super A, etc series of tractors.

First photo is of a G3033H with the manual position knobs. The knobs screw into some sort of threaded flat piece of metal that then locks in place.

Second photo is of J2023H's lift mechanism I think. From what I see, the same manual position knobs from the G3033H can be placed on the J20XXH's 3 point hitch setup and at least give you manual position control.

I checked with the dealer on this, and he said those parts are available. I didn't think to get the parts numbers for them.

Just thought it might help out some.

As of this past weekend, I'm probably going to opt for the G3033H myself. I can get it with TLB, tiller, remote hydraulics, rotary mower, and AG tires for $25408.00 out the door and delivered - tires loaded too.

J2023/J2030H same setup was about $21775.00 with same options. The J2030H is $100.00 more than the J2023H, so big deal on that. The price I posted here if for the J2030H.

My soil is clay soil and I have a pond to deal with. I'm thinking the 33 HP and extra clearance of the G3033H will suit my purposes better. I can only do this once, and I do not want buyers remorse.

I've heard and read it many times before: Select the tractor you think you will need and go one size larger. Hence my choice of a G3033H.

I'm assuming the lift capacities and backhoe strength of the G3033 are quite a bit higher than the J ...?

Oh, yeah. I'm not a dealer. I'm just looking for a new tractor to replace my 64 year old Farmall Cub. Time to get into the 21st Century. :)

The J2023 will be a smaller frame, but it seems a little nicer featured compared to the G Series. The G Series is what they call their "value compact" model. Just a little cheaper looking on the details. The G is a much heavier tractor.

Price on the J2023 seems high. I just ordered a brand new one for $12,200 with a loader. I was quoted a little over $5k for the LS backhoe installed with the auxiliary remote. So call it $17,500 in a TLB configuration. If it were me, I'd save some money and try to find lightly used attachments locally on Craigslist.

Don't get me wrong. I like the J2023 a whole lot. But, with the pond area, and having to go behind the pond dam, I really think I need the extra clearance underneath. Plus, I will be pulling a plow from time to time for planting corn, etc. Again, clearance underneath becomes a bigger issue.

The price on the J2023H included the TLB, remote hydraulics, tiller, and rotary mower too. All sized to the tractor. I can't find a better deal where I live for that kind of money. Same goes for the G3033H.

Just a Kubota B series with the FEL in my area is $15,800 + tax and prep. And, it has that blasted treadle pedal setup that I definitely do not like.

If you're doing ground engaging tasks, the G3033 would probably be the better choice then.

I don't think changing the knobs will make any difference in how the 3pt works on the J. With the manual style, when you push forward the 3pt goes down. How far forward you push only changes the rate at which it drops, not where it will stop. If you only push the lever forward a little bit, the 3pt will still eventually bottom out. You have to center the lever to stop the 3pt from further movement. The same is true for raising the 3pt, and pulling the lever back.

If the G3038 isn't much more expensive, it's worth considering, because the FEL has 300lbs more lift capacity.

It was a little more than $3000 higher for the G3033H from my dealer.
