Small, Flat panel LCD TV

Having almost complete enclosing our porch, I'd like to add a small flat panel TV out there. I'm planning on mounting it at the top of the wall. I've done some looking and it looks like a 15-17 inch unit will fit there nicely. I'm thinking I should spend the extra money for an HD-ready unit. The Phillips 15PF9936 is HD capable at a reasonable price. I doubt as if I'd need the PC monitor capabilty that some of the unit come with, such as the Zenith L15V36.

I've read though some reviews at a few sites (epinions, etc.), but the opinions here are much more respected. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Memory tells me, there is someone here that works at a plant that manufactures them... Phillips perhaps?

Maybe they'll chime in.

I'd asked about putting one above a fireplace & the consequential heat maybe affecting it.

I can think of two reasons you might like that. First, if you have a way to write off things like a PC for business, this could be your PC monitor. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Also, with the wide screen formats now, you could actually be in your easy chair watching a game on one side and TBN on the other. Also, of course, come the bragging rights from just being ABLE to do that. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks, that's an excellent point! I do have an S-Corp and haven't upgraded any of my computer equipment this year. As a wise colleague of my from the Ukraine would say, "Is not brainer". /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now to decide which one.

When you say "HD", do you know what version of HD that is? There are several standards, and some are higher-res than others. Looks to me like it is 1024x768 pixels, which is a decent PC monitor (typical size of a laptop resolution). But that means it isn't really "wide-screen", which is a 16:9 (1.85)aspect ratio. This is 4:3 ratio, which is the standard US TV format (non-widescreen).

I'd suggest a Google search on Phillips 15PF9936 and you'll see some reviews (some aren't so good).
