SMALL Off ROAD Trailers and Wagons. Clevis VS Ball?

If the trailer is going to tip over all but the strongest ball style connectors will let loose. A clevis will not. If really heavy it'll take your tractor with it, if light your tractor will prevent it. I like having everything standardized. So all but my leaf sucker is 2" ball. Of course my large trailers are 2 5/16" and pintle but they can only be pulled by my truck.

A clevis is easy to visually check that it's secured, a ball not so much.
My similar size to the OPs trailer, 8'L x 4' H x 32" W firewood trailer that is only used in the woods behind the tractor is the only clevis attachment I have. I've toyed with the idea of putting a 2" ball coupler on it.

The fact that we have a rather large hill seperating the farm, is a factor in a number of considerations.

So, trailer brakes too?

I put hydraulic disk brakes on my (Horst Undercarriage) off-road dump trailer, after I almost got pushed into a river, when I had a sharp turn at the bottom of a steep roadway at a friends. Didn't care much for the thousand dollar price tag!
When you have a mediocre size tractor for a given trailer, you best do it!

I purchased brand new Horst running gear and made a ten ton farm wagon. It has a clevis hitch. It will never be used off my 80 acres and will always be pulled with my tractor.

I've found that a heavily loaded trailer can buck/jump and pull ball hitches apart. View attachment 672974

Riding the safety chains to bring a full loaded trailer to a stop - not a lot of fun.
They are a GREAT running gear I have the same one, now spring for the "spring" to put on the tongue and it will be even better!!

It really does make the use of the gear better, and easier to hook up to.

As Johny Cash Would Say. "I went straight to the factory" (to pick mine up) "it's cheaper that way"

I have one or two of those combination pintle/ball hitches. Do they hold the coupler from coming off the ball? Or can you not close them with a coupler in place?

Like the pintle hitch on hilly ground off road.
