I am having a problem unscrewing the large gas cap on my BX2360. I have some arthritis in my hands and it is very hard for me to get a good grip, especially in cold weather. Does anyone have a trick? Some cheap tool I can buy? I ended up today using a piece of rubber and had to just about lie on the cap to turn it. Thanks in advance.

the above thumbnail looks good but they don't give a source? guess a large cheap oil filter wrench would work if you could keep track of on tractor. is your cap the ratcheting type or simply thread tighten? i have overtightened non ratcheting types before and split the cap over time, might keep in mind. good luck, know where you're coming from :)

harbor freight sells strap wrenches. if the OP will post a pic of the cap and clearances.. there may well be other options.

Here is a pic of the cap, a screw on type. That strap wrench looks like it will do the trick. Thanks for the tip.

If strap wrench doesn't work, you could make a spanner out of plywood, probably do it with just a jig saw. That cap has notches that would be easy to grab on.

i bet a single tooth curved spanner would work too. again. plywood..e tc.

I took a pic of a strap wrench on the fuel cap from my BX-25. It should do the trick.

If clearance is a problem, you can use finger type oil filter wrench.

Sears.com

I've seen versions of the strap wrench sold in dollar stores, in fact I recall buying a set (lge and sm) for a $ or $$.
My wife uses one all the time.

Although a little pricey at $25-$30,oil filter pliers in the correct size would remove that cap very nicely.Good Luck!

I'd put squares of "skateboard tape" on the lugs. The increased traction might make up for the lack of grip strength, plus you wouldn't have to keep track of the wrench.

EDIT: Also you may be able to find a size of PVC pipe or a PVC coupling that fits pretty close over the existing cap. It could be fastened to the cap's knobs with small screws so it extends up a few inches. Then you could do a complete wrap of skateboard tape around the extension.

I bought a strap wrench like in the thumbnail from Sears. Works fine, but annoying when the strap falls away from the handle or in tight spaces.
Should work fine for your gas cap. You'll find other uses for it.

Having seen a pix of the fuel cap I suggest that you could trace it onto a scrap of 3/4" plywood and cut out the profile making a female 'key' or spanner type thing.
A decent handle could then be added for good leverage.

Might even make one for my cap, if nothing else but to keep my hands off of that cold smelly cap!
Also wood is friendlier than cold metal on -25deg weather and it would be easier to exert the required down pressure my cap needs.
