small riding lawn mower recomendation

I don’t know if any new small riding mower that doesn’t suck. I’d look for a 2000 or older model. I’ve got a 42” cut cub cadet that needs a carburetor I’d pass on for a good deal if you’re close.

my John Deere was made in their factory in Tennessee and JD has a high resale value.. btw, you only get what you pay for, Companies don't exist to lose money, keep that in mind..

Good advice. :thumbsup: My X500 has been going strong since 2012. A mean green grass cutting machine. Nice to be able to call a dealer for repair and/or maintenance. Before the X500 had various Craftsman models, spent more DIY time working on them than cutting the grass.

I bought a new JD E150 a couple months ago now. I went into it knowing it was a consumer grade mower so I didn't expect it to be like my Kubota tractor.

I'll say so far I am very happy with this thing.

MTD makes most of the consumer grade stuff. the cub xt3 is a pretty dang good machine though. just because MTD makes it, does not make it the same as the home depot stuff.

What kind of inclines?

Small, consumer riding mowers often come with low end Hydrostatic Transmissions. They're fine for the majority of buyers with urban/suburban lawns that are more or less flat. They have trouble on inclines though and that can dramatically shorten the life of the transmission. My two will both pull my hill which is rather severe, but I have to be careful not to let them overheat.

Pulling any kind of equipment beyond a cart or small trailer magnifies the problem.

I have a 15 year old JD LT180...on my second hydro tranny....I have lots of hills and run chains year round. We get lots of rain...without chains I spin the wheels all day. Chains work great on hills.

home depot is where you buy cub cadet!.. it IS home depot stuff..
