Now that I have a 60hp HST tractor, I am thinking about selling my older New Holland TC40 and getting a new smaller tractor to go with my 60HP tractor. I am thinking about a 25-35HP tractor for around the immediate yard on my property. So far, from what I have looked at, I like the Kubota LX2620 and the LS MT225s. I like that they have a small footprint but seem to be able to do some work and well built. Prices are around 23-26K.

Is 25 HP enough? Will it run a 4 ft tiller? Pull a pulverizer? I am going to mostly be using it for planting grass, yard maintenance, moving around mulch, seed bags, fertilizer, dirt and gravel in tight spots were the bigger tractor will not be as efficient.

How many of ya'll are using these little tractors for this type of work and what do you like, dislike about them?

I have a BX 2660, 2008 model, 25hp , roughly 15 hp to pto, I use a 48 inch rototiller twice a year in 30 x 30 garden, and sometimes to do a deer food plot, no concerns about power. Also use a wood chipper ( see my signature line for all my attachments) I have stalled the engine th odd time with post hole digger in clay and wood chipper with over size wood......but just stop and restart and continue. My main negative about my tractor was that the small wheels lose traction long before losing hp. ( I have the commercial stock bar tread tires) Your choice of a bigger frame and thus wheel size is a good choice, that if I could do again , I would stay with my 25 hp but bigger frame model....I have the same 25 hp engine in my RTV, and love it's consistent reliability and power.

My buddy has the MT225 and is very happy with it. I have a 2023 NH 25S which is built by LS. I got it last year new for $14,900 with FEL and 60" mid-mount mower. It is based on the MT125 with a Yanmar diesel. The MT125 is about 300 pounds less weight and has about 100# less FEL capacity but is very similar to the MT225. The old model MT225E had a Mitsubishi diesel but I see the new MT225S has a Yanmar diesel. I prefer the Yanmar, but Mitsubishi makes a good engine as well.

It is very handy for doing yardwork, I call it my powered wheelbarrow. We just put 4 yards of mulch in the flowerbeds in very short time. Dumped it on the driveway and scooped it up. Very easy to maneuver and dump small quantities of material to rake out. I also use it to put dirt around the horse barn where the horses wear a path going in and out. Much easier than using either the TC40DA or WM75. I also use it to mow about 1 acre of trees too rough for the ZTR.

Also consider a PT425 for its ability to get into tight spots without wrecking your lawn. T8 Class

I’m looking to buy a TC40 HST if you are anywhere near Florida.

I have a Steiner 420 I use around the house for the stuff you mention. Advantage is the balloon tires and the AWD system do not tear up the grass at all. I have the full loader for it which is light duty yes but works much better than I can lift that stuff ! lol I have a rotating brush for snow clearing duties and a 48" mower deck for a backup mower use to my Simplicity ZTR's and a leaf blower that blows leaves into another township (it's next door lol).

Thanks for the replies. I am pretty sure I am going to be buying a Deere 3520. I am going Tuesday to go look at it and probably buy it if everything works out. It is a little smaller than the TC40 was but still has nice capability. Plus it is emmsions free and low hours.

If I dont buy that, I am leaning towards that LS 225S.

If you are looking at the Deere 3520, why pay for the extra money for green paint? Look at the Yamar YT235 as well.

Yanmar for the win Sir. Better specs than JD. I got mine recently and have been putting it through it's paces. So far it has not missed a beat. LS is on a smaller frame so says a friend of mine that has an LS.
