Those look like rice tires you have on there. Do they tear up your turf real bad? Nice looking tractor btw.

Mark,
Mine doesn't tear as much as it leaves ruts. I left them on this spring because of all the rain, and now I take a beating when mowing going over the ruts left by the rice tires.

Re: Small tractor for mowing 1acre.

They are rice tires, and yes they do tear up the turf. Although I didn't have any trouble with them until this last mowing. It has been raining about every other day for the last 2 weeks and the ground is soft on top, but hard down about 1-2 inches. During the summer, we had one of the worst droughts on the books, so the ground was as hard as rock and the tires didn't do any damage, but I didn't have to mow much either.

I do have a set of 265/75R16 Michelin truck tires I'm going to put on the tractor this spring in place of the 8-16 rice tires. For now, mowing is over and I have removed the belly mower. I will be putting the snow blade on this weekend if it doesn't rain too much. I want the rice tires for snow.

I used the tractor to finally plow my potatoes on Monday. First use of the 3pt hitch I built for the tractor. It worked great! In fact, it worked so well that I'm going to use the potato plow to make a ditch to bury some drain pipe.

Greg, First nice to see anouther Mustang guy on the board. I have a 70.

As for the tractor stuff. If you want a tire a bit less agressive then the rice tires, but better then the truck tires. I just picked up a set of Firestone ag tires in the same size for my Ingersoll. I love them. Granted yours weights a bit more, but I have had no problem with digging up the lawn. Pluss they were cheap. I payed less then $70 each.

Re: Small tractor for mowing 1acre.

Hey Paul,
Ditto on the mustang owner. I actually have two, a '67 289 auto convertable, and a '67 390 GT coup with the rock crusher 4spd tranny. The GT needs a 390 to go back in it as it was drag raced and the original engine was blown up and replaced with a 302 2V by the previous owner. Some day maybe I'll get a digital camera and get some photos of the cars to post on my website.

As for tractor tires, I have an ag tire dealer about a mile from my house. He also does cars and trucks, and had these Michelins he had taken off a customer's truck. They have about 30% tread, and he only charged me $5 each. The price was right! They shouldn't be a problem in my yard as I have 4wd to help out with traction.

If you are still looking for a bigger tractor, I'd highly recommend a Yanmar. A YM1510D would be a great size for you. Maybe even a YM1610D which is quite a bit beefier than the YM1510D. As nice as my 1301D is, I'd really like to have a YM1610D or even an FX16D with a loader to replace it. I'd set up the one 1110D for mowing, and sell the 1301D.

I would not roule one out, only problem is they are not easy to find in my area. I think I have only seen one or two in the want ads.
