Mowing Smallest Deere - 5 foot rotary mower

I am so envious of you guys with no trees and garage size boulders just lying around. That is some really nice looking pasture. I enjoyed the pic with the snow to - it reminds me of where we were only a few months ago. This warm weather is great!

SteveH_CT,

Yes, it is much nicer now that the snow is gone. There used to be more trees in the pasture. I had to take out about 35 wild apple trees when one of the horses got sick from eating the apples. The wife said those trees gotta go and she didn't mean when I got around to it. The trees were only about 3 to 4 inches at the base. I dug out all the stumps with the FEL.

The 755 has been a great tractor but I am looking at buying a 4310 in the next couple of weeks. I have started getting prices from my local dealers. My neighbor has a 4600 with a 48BH. The 48 hoe just happens to fit the 4310 /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif so I'll be getting mine with power beyond.

Jeff,

Thanks - that's very relevant info. I'm not sure of the physical size of the 755 but it doesn't sound like it would cast a shadow over a 4115.

I like the 90 series - and what's not to like about the hp-to-dollar ratio of the 790 but there are a few things that are 'turn offs'. Near as I can tell - there are no rear hydraulic ports available (except for power beyond) and while I like fundamental tractors the two-stage clutch to handle the PTO is just plain 1950's. I am no fan normally of hydrostatics but for this particular beast I would probably go hydro (no choice in the 4115) so she who must be obeyed could have a shorter learning curve. I plan on a reverser on the 'big' tractor.

Who knows - with the upcoming 20 series maybe I'll find someone willing to move a 4710 while the iron is hot. Wife didn't like that p.s. to our conversation - she was fine with a 10K-12K tractor in a hurry. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Sounds like a good plan - sharing implements is the way to go. It gets expensive going it alone!

timb,

The 755 is of similar weight to the 4115 but that is about it. The size (tires, wheel base etc.) and hp is more like the 4110. The hydraulic system (flow and pressure) is more like the 4010. Back then John Deere offered only one hydraulic pump not the 2 that are standard today.

As I mentioned I've been concentrating on the large frame CUTs so I'm playing catch up with the small units. Looks like a 4115 would do what we need for now - the biggest problem I see might be the price. If the real world quotes work out to what I think they might be based on list pricing - It's going to be awfully hard to justify a 4115 when a hydro 4210 might be realatively very little more. A gear 4210 would be even closer, especially if they're motivated to move a 'discontinued' version. Won't know until we start asking though. Might even throw in a reverser 4310 just to check pricing.

Good plan! When you contact dealers, you will want to ask if they have any super deals, say a 4310 with 26 hours, still in warranty that ends up being only a little more than the 4115... I had a friend pricing 4510s a while back that got a price on one, but asked what else thay had, turned out they had a deal on a 4710 that was actually a little LESS!
