I just bought a 2003 BX1500 w/ 110 hours. Whats the smallest trailer I could safely haul it on??? I have no attachments other than the 54" mmm which as you know can be removed easily if needed. I would probably only use it to haul the bx a couple times a year so I don't need anything super fancy. I just sold my little 4x6 el cheapo trailer from TSC that I used to haul my el cheapo riding mower so I'm in need of a new trailer anyway!

More Newbie BX questions to follow........

Its length and weight are not much less than the larger BXs (without bh and fel), so I would think trailer requirements for a BX1500 are about the same as the larger BXs. If you go to this post, you will find 4 links to other threads about BX trailer sizes and tie down. Also, when you go to the post at the above link, you can scroll up and find a few other posts dealing with BX trailer size. The posts below mine get mostly into a discussion re. brakes.

I have a 6x12 trailer that I have used for my bx23. Yours has no fel or bh so I would think that you could get away with ten feet in length. 6 foot wide works great. But, if you are going to haul an attachment with the tractor later on, then 12 or 14 foot would be better.

A 6x10 will be perfect and would allow you to haul certain attachments down the road if you needed. I trailered my BX1800 with FEL on a 6x10 for quite a while but had to drop the FEL on to the rear gate which I didn't like.

If you intend to trailer often or very long distance you may very seriously want to consider a trailer with brakes.

Even the BX1500 weighs a fair amount and will reduce your stopping distance quite a bit in the event you really need to stop quick.

I just upgraded to a 16' Dual Axle Aluminum with brakes. Nice thing is it only weighs a few hundred more pounds than my old steel one but is 6' longer! I couldn't be happier.

Good luck with your search and decision.

Surfra,
you keep talking about that trailer and it makes me jealous each time. I think you have the perfect set up for a bx.

Yeah I pretty much think it is perfect now also. I made due with my 6x10, but this new one is the best. It trailers great and I must admit having the brakes gives me the piece of mind I was lacking.

I have told before of the trip I took on I95 with a trailer without brakes and am still amazed I survived without any real damage to myself, my equipment or anyone else. It was a ride I never want to repeat and with the new trailer and brakes I don't expect to.

Here is a picture of my setup now that I have my tool box on front and side boards added. This was the maiden voyage in May to my Lake property so it's loaded up with some other junk also.

Just for reference here is an older photo of my 6x10. You will notice I had to rest the loader on the gate to make it fit as well as get the load at the right proportion to trailer properly.

The BX without the loader trailered pretty well, but still doesn't give you a lot of room for movement to adjust for adding other things to your load.

I have no experience trailering a BX but if you truly want the "smallest" then based strictly on the measurements I would guess that a 4x8 trailer with sufficient weight capacity would be the absolute bare minimum. One with the wheels outside the trailer deck not underneath it. You wouldn't be able to trailer any attachments of course not even your MMM. Assuming you'd want to trailer the MMM too then you would need at least a 5 foot wide trailer. Also, keep in mind that the BX1500 is probably, at a minimum 3x or 4x, heavier then your old "el cheapo" mower so your trailer will need at least a 2000 lbs GVWR. I wouldn't say trailer brakes are a must but you might be glad you have them if you need to stop quickly or if the trailer starts to get squirrely on you. With trailers, as with most things, a little too big is always better then a little too small! As others have said a 6x10 would probably be a better fit. Whatever you use make sure you secure the tractor very very well, you don't want any movement of the tractor especially if your using a smaller trailer. I'm not necessarily recommending Bri-mar but if you check out their site you might get some ideas: http://www.bri-mar.com/trailermenu.php?categorysid=3

Thanks for the input guys! There is a local dedicated trailer shop that is running a sale on a 5x8 trailer. It doesn't come with brakes but you can add them as an option if you want. I think he said it was rated 2600# without the brakes installed or 3500 with the brakes but I cant remember. The 6x10 model he has is really nice but a little pricey, I still havent ruled it out though. I really cant see myself adding any attachments maybe other than a rear blade.
