my geo metro convertible fits your parameters but i'm not ready to part with it. I haven't measured one but that new Fiat looks pretty small.

Just for the sake of discussion why are you limiting yourself to such a small car and not a larger trailer (gcwr?) and then have a more available choice of vehicle.
In my experience once you hook up any trailer a slightly larger or smaller one barely changes your fuel useage.

Drew, your trailer is your problem. You seem to be designing around the least expensive item. Towing 2 wheels down with a car hauler that lifts only the front wheels will allow you take a really comfortable car that Nadene will also enjoy. You can easily carry her wheelchair also. Towing 4 wheels down requires a standard transmission or modifications to disconnect the driveline and is much more expensive. Ron Hall (user: ronjhall) tows with a two wheel carrier and I've helped him load up his car. It's simple and quick. You can load up a car on the hauler much quicker than unloading your golf cart and loading a smart car. BTW: Doesn't your trailer have rails? If so, you will not be able to open the doors on a standard car. You have to crawl through a window. It's a royal PITA. That's why car haulers are flat-bed.

rails? You have to do the nascar window climb with a railed trailer , then you have to tow with the window open.
