Googling SmartStrap I found that it's a brand name with many different products and prices. In my experience Northern Tool is generally more costly, often for the exact same item that can be found elsewhere.

If you're looking for fire hose stop by your local fire department. They often replace it and give away the old hose. Usually they cut the metal ends off so it can't be used as a hose again. Usually they have enough people who want it but on occasion I've seen it in front of a station with a free sign on it. But it's usually first come first served so the first person who asks when they have old hose gets it.

For the tractor I use chains with ratcheting binders. I use straps for hay and pallet loads. TSC sells SmartStraps brand, they are OK. I now buy all my straps from CustomTieDowns.com. I can get them any length, color, and choice of ends. I use twisted snaps and axle straps so I can put them anywhere along the trailer rail or clip them into D-rings. It's really nice when you are by yourself not having the strap hook come loose off the far side of the trailer.

I contacted them last year about making a heavy duty version of this strap. They weren't interested.

Note the adjustable hook on one end.

You can slide the ratchet anywhere between the hooks, then tighten the strap.

Very handy for securing things in the truck bed or on the trailer. :thumbsup:

2" X 27' Wide Handle Ratchet Strap with Chain Extensions & Clevis Grab Hooks - Ratchet Tie Downs - Amazon.com

$40 ish.

google had a whole page of results for grab hook end straps or chain end straps. might try clicking around and compaireing. i know are both a 3" and 4" version is around for about twice the cost but.... rarely should we need something in that neighborhood of size.
