Smoke in the air

95° and 50% humidity. Smoke so bad i cannot see neighbors house about 500 feet away.

Not quite that bad here grsthegreat. 77F but the SMOKE, wow. So we sit here in the house - all sealed up. Fans blowing on us. Don't dare open a window to pull in the outside air. One of these days it's bound to clear up.

I have a suspicion that we will be getting more smokey days in the future. Some from wild fires, other from "controlled" burns. There's a lot of fuel to be rid of.

Brownie and I went outside around 10:30 last night. It had cooled significantly and NO SMOKE. Back in the house - on go the big fans. I just turned the fans off now at 7 AM. House has cooled down nicely.

Right across the county road is Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge. They burn every year - slash & trimmings. They had damn well better hold off this year. At least until the wildfire smoke is gone. If they start burning now - somebody is going to find out how displeased I can be.

Two years ago they started burning around this time of year. Stupid to be burning during the height of the dry season. But that's the way some folks think. All the smoke drifted into Cheney. Their burning operation lasted less than a day. Somebody with clout had that shut down, right pronto.

It's not so much "who you are" - - it's more to do with- "whose ox is being gored".

The situation here has repeated itself for several days now. It will cool down to 52 to 55 just before sunrise. The air is translucent because of the "crap" from all the fires. It doesn't smell smoky and doesn't burn my eyes.

I'm able to cool the house down with my fans.

Ok, I am not an engineer or an environmental scientist, but what if they collected some of the stuff they are burning and used it for some sort of wood fired power plant. Sure, it would probably not be nearly as efficient as a coal or gas plant, but they are burning anyway...I know some of the controlled burning is good for forest health....just spit balling an idea here.

Btw, glad y'all are getting a little respite from the heat.

Most of that stuff is in the mountains. Just spit balling here too, you'd need some kind of monster helicopter with a huge suction hose with grinders. Be able to grind up 100' plus trees and gobs of brush. I'm thinking the "controlled" burning is probably what needs to be done, but there will be some that get out of control, plus they produce huge amounts of smoke, but then the wild fires produce a huge amount of smoke. It will take years of trial and error.

Here in NY we got the western fire smoke for 2 days. Idk how you guys survive the whole summer like that. I'm a prety fit guy and couldn't breath.

nyone - some of us out here in the PNW aren't getting it as bad as others. GRSTHEGREAT, up in North Idaho seems to get it worse than I do. I've had three or four days where I could smell smoke.

Otherwise - the air is translucent blue/grey - no odor and it doesn't burn your eyes. Still - probably not the best of air quality.
