I know alot of business owners who do want the smoking ban because they can't discriminate against smokers. They need to give them a place to smoke. Even if you are private you still have to obey certain laws. I know alot of business owners who do want the smoking ban because they can't discriminate against smokers. Most states give complete latitude to the business owner or owners in this respect. This is true even if the company is publicly traded. For example, Motorola recently banned smoking from everywhere, even cars as they enter the parking lot. No one can smoke on Motorola property. Smokers are subject to termination if caught.

My concern is many people make it their business to worry about others behavior when it doesn't affect them at all.

You know, if the times were different, science weren't so advanced, these people would seem a lot like those responsible for the Salam witch hunts. I think they get some sort of fulfillment out of finding fault with others.

Our city smoking ordinance cures that problem. The smoking section must be completely closed off from the non-smoking section with doors between closed unless someone is passing through. The ordinance also went on to protect people in the workplace from unwanted second hand smoke by including a ban on smoking in the workplace.

Ironically, the one group to which that protection was not extended was restaurant workers. Otherwise, while you would have a smoking section there'd be nobody working there. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

The logic there regarding the health issue escapes me, though. Is it a more healthy environment for our teenage children who have after school jobs as waitresses and bussers? Oh, well... one step at a time, I guess. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

A couple of months ago, the wife and I were in a theatre taking in a movie and a guy behind us starts talking a little loud. A minute later, his cell phone rings and again he starts talking loudly. But somebody in front of us stands up and tells him to turn off his cell phone or leave. Then dozens of people start in on the guy, standing up and berating him. The man and his wife left. We all applauded.

I never had any problem with "dippers", until I started a business. About once a day someone walks in my retail store sporting a nice big cup of spit. Man, does that make me want to puke. I still dont have a problem with dippers; just the spit cups. I ask them to leave it outside, and you would be amazed at how many people get offended by that.

Hi Patrick, no problem, just that a thread like this can and does raise the dander at times. Now, I'm gonna go smoke a cigarette, or maybe a pack while I look at my broken tractor.
