When I was younger, many of the local farmers used to wear a high topped work shoe with a smooth sole. It had a round topped toe, that I liked because weld spatter rolled off. The part I liked best though, was the smooth sole, it seemed to be made from some kind of rubber/cork composite material. Mud and manure were easy to scrape from these shoes, compared to the lug soled work shoes availabe today. I can only guess that safety issues have made the manufacturers cease production of these shoes. The pair I had, was probably sold under the Gerogia Giant label. If anyone knows a source for smooth soled work shoes, please let me know.
