I prefer snakes to rats.
Get rid of the rats/rodents and the snake will leave.
Good luck. </font>

I prefer snakes to politicians even if they are often the same thing.

But on a serious note, do we know if the snake (not the politician) is a poisonous variety or is it the type that will control the mouse & rat population without fear of injury to the family or the pets?

If it is a simple harmless snake like a king or garter snake then I would probably scream like a little girl if it poked its head out of a dark cabinet that I was reaching into, but I would probably still let it stay there. I would much rather have the snake there controlling vermin than have the vermin and lose the snake. We had a garter snake get into to house one day, still don't know how that happened. My daughter saw it, she was probably 5 or 6 at the time. While not poisonous I still didn't like the idea of it snapping at me. The quick thinker that my daughter is, she ran up to the kitchen and brought me an oven mit. I picked the snake up and carried it to the patio where I released it into the garden unharmed. Now if it was a rattler in my house, I'd probably have wet myself.

There ain't a sadder sight in the world than a Jack Russel with time on his paws. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The snake being there doesn't particularly bother me. I don't think it is poisonous. The skin is basically dark grey to black with nothing particularly interesting as far as markings. But we don't live on this land yet. I built the shop with a bathroom, small kitchen area, and put in a few pieces of furniture so that we can go up there occasionally to spend a weekend. If the wife finds out there is a snake in the building, she will never set foot in there again. And since snakes can climb, I am not sure how well I would sleep in there either. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Get rid of the rodents. The snake will leave!!! Try that heat lamp thing.

Don't make any difference what kind of snake it is, move your tractor out and burn the barn! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I heard a long time ago that if you grab a snake by it's tail and sling it around in a big circle the force will make it's head pop. Is that true? By the way I'm not man enough to try it.

Heck, I'm the one who's daughter brought him an oven mitt to grab the snake . . . I'm not the guy who is going to try to swing it in a circle over my head yelling YIPPEE or whatever while trying to get its head to fill with blood and explode!

Bob,
I had a big lunch and after reading that I've been laughing so hard I am in pain. You painted quite a picture. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You don't just swing it around in a circle; you have to pop it like a whip to break its neck. At least that's what my dad said his mother used to do, and she confirmed that many years ago.
