Well I had these three guys show up. Two yesterday and one today. All three in the back yard. The first one is a baby about 11 in, the second ones is about 34in and the last one was about 38in.

And I guess those are not one of the varieties of rattlesnake that are protected by law in Arizona. When we visited Arizona, I couldn't believe they actually protect rattlesnakes by law.

All 3 of them look like they got serious headaches now.
That is scary to have them come around like that. And who knows where they were hiding before that? Those animals don't know any better than to bite the crap out of you EVERY time you are in striking range. If you don't believe me, just try it. I'm sorry, but that is one animal I kill when I see them on my property. I have left them alone when I see them on the BLM next door, but not when they are around my place.
I have a grand daughter who was bitten when she was 5 (she is 16 now and OK). But it was h*ll to go through for a year and she almost lost her entire leg because of it.

(All kidding aside, Nice job on the kill!!! I am with you kill them all and let god sort them out.)

Bird: In PA and MD Timber Rattle snakes are a endangered species and protected by law. I actually saw one on my property last year. First one in almost 15 years. I called the PA Game Commision and let them know I had spoted one and they thanked me for the info which they use to document local populations.

As far as protected snakes go, when the government protects me from being bitten by them is when I will help protect them from being destroyed. The Timber Rattler that bit an older lady working in the flowerbed in my front yard was protected and it almost killed her.
Either manage the animals on your place or they will manage you. All the snakes at my place meet a similar fate, they are killed.

The entire idea that snakes are great mousers is mistaken. Snakes in general have a low metabolism which means their food requirements are very minimal. Even in the active season, rattlers may go days between feedings whereas a cat that kills mice for fun may kill several per day. We have 4 cats and NO snakes. Dave

Many years ago (22-24?) I visited a place in (Gleason) sp? Arizona and met a couple that had a trailer like that and made their money killing rattlers and making things with the skin, head and fangs.Jimbrown said:

I remembered the rattlesnake couple. I thought at the time, what a way to live....I figured they'd always be somewhat poor, but freer than me.
I still have a slight facination with rattlers. Too bad they don't stay away from humans, but if my family or pets are in danger, and I can't move them safely...goodnight beautifull serpent.
Oh almost forgot. In Gleeson there was a saloon, We (the 1st wife and I) had 3 bean soup and a couple beers, I paid for the first beer and soup, but think we walked out exchanging thanks and pleasantries and forgot to pay for the last beer. and didn't leave a tip! always meant to find out who and where to contact the owners. They were an older couple, most likely gone..but still...

Diesel Power is right . Maryland has protected these critters. I know we have a post going on about coyotes killing livestock. A week or two back Md. passed or proposed a law so you have to buy a #5.00 permit to shot them!!! Our down to earth neighbor, West Virginia put a bounty on them. Sometimes ya just can't fix stupid.

Cats make great "snakers" too. Out here my neighbor has about 5 or 6 cats that will kill the rattlers. He says not to get attached to them. Give them a food, water and shelter out in the barn or other structure. They will rid the place of rodents and snakes. He loses on or two to coyotes and bobcats, and maybe a rattlesnake, but he replaces them from the pound.dwenham said:
