Snake

   / Snake #31
We had a birds nest over the horses' stall which didn't thrill The Boss. On Saturday there were four baby birds. On Sunday there were none. Also on Sunday I discovered this snake. It had been resident in the barn last year before we had a wall completely torn out and replaced. Hadn't seen the snake since then until Sunday. What is it?

If there is ONE thing that the Boss can not stand it is a SNAKE, even though she knows it will eat mice (in addition to birds). Especially a 5'+ one. There will be no peaceful co-habitation.

This bring me to a funny story
We are up at my cabin my middle daughter go's to the outhouse, and comes back my oldest go's right out after her we hear a scream and I go out ther a black snake in rafter just to the left of the seat. I snare it and take it out and let it go. when I go back in cabin anbd tell wife and middle daughter the scream was even louder from her because she did her buisness with him in the rafter. We still kid here about it.

Too bad.

Because they are excellent at rodent control and seem to keep other snakes away.

I have a six footer living on my property.

I tried ONCE, to move him. Didn't work. Heavier and stronger than I anticipated.

He/She lives whereever it wants, now.

The last snake-skin I had was over 6'3"" in length. BIG snake.

About a week ago, my wife and I returned home from a restaurant. As I went to park, I noticed a rat snake along the side of the driveway. I got out of the car after parking and walked over toward the snake until he went up a nearby oak tree. I'd say it was 3-1/2' long. After looking at him for awhile, I started to walk into the house and saw another exact duplicate sized snake on the other side of the driveway. I was sure surprised. My mother used to say that where there was a snake, there was always another close by. But that is the first time I've ever seen that.

Jim,
I think your Mom is right.
My mother used to say that where there was a snake, there was always another close by. But that is the first time I've ever seen that.

I've seen that with rattlesnakes a few times myself. Walking the road in the late evenings, I've seen a couple of them coiled up near each other. Like they were BS'ing or something. I guess they like to come out and feel the warmth?

Hunting in California I've seen 3 of them in the same gully near each other. Our rock out croppings are always good for multiple sightings. Weird and scary to think about. I've seen it a couple times.

My vote is Hognose, if it was by water, they will put a hurting on the frogs. Clay
