they are scared type!
pic on my pc didnt look real clear but appeared to be common Gardner snakes.

feisty maybe but not dangerous unless you are a cricket or slug...

I think garter snake also. This is one of the many varieties of Western Gartersnake.

You didn't happen to find them near a foundation or somewhere where bugs hang out did you? My vote is garter snakes. I used to have them around my foundation where they feasted on crickets.

Garder snakes around here are usually a different color. Usually black and orangeish yellow. If it seams to be thicker than the usuall garter then it could be a bull snake. Take good care of it if it is a bull, they get big enough to eat mice.

I vote for garter snake also. Plenty of them around, especially around old woodpiles.

I found these garter snakes on line. One thing to say about them is how many different colorings and patterns they come in.

Most have the stripe down the back, but not all.

What you have there is a very young western coachwhip like the one in this photo.
