The little buggers are taking over my shed at the moment. I altered one's geometry the other day after hopping off the rideon mower in the shed.

Luckily I had just taken the young fella for a ride and dropped him off with mum at the house, otherwise he would have hopped off right where the snake was.

Yesterday one stares at me through the window of the shed. I go out to check it's geometry but miss, and he goes up through a gap between the window and the wall sheeting.

So now, how many of the buggers are living inches from my feet in the walls of my office??

Yuk................

We have hundreds of green tree frogs around the house & shed, which is a great food source.

We are trying to keep frogs away by keeping the bugs away by keeping the lights off.

Viscous circle. Where do a I get a mongoose from???

Cheers

I believe they are King Brown or Mulga snakes from what I can identify them as on the net. I have only kept one.

They are only small but they have the most venom but fortunately it is of a low toxicity.

The National Parks people are sending me some brochures to try and better identify them.

If one of the buggers bites me, I sure want to knopw what it is.

So that makes 4 I have seen in the little over 1 year we have been here. My tally is 3 out of 4 so far !!

Don't get me wrong, I am a nature lover, but if it is in my shed/garage/pool area he is on my turf and will be rearranged.

Cheers

Traps look great.

Gee the price is a bit steep though !! - Especially if you can only use it once.

May ask around here now. You have me interested !!

Neil,

"Mongooses are native to Africa and Asia (especially India). They are reknown for their ability to catch and kill rats, cobras, and certain poisonous snakes" [Scientific American]. You're looking for the right thing /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif. Do you have a local game warden you can call upon?

In all seriousness, be careful down there.

Neil

You think they are King Brown or Mulga? Is that the same kind of snake or two different kinds?

Whatever you do, don't close up the hole on the outside. Otherwise he'll be in the wall looking for a way out and that may be on the inside. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

What are you using to teach them geometry? I've tried teaching some of mine to use the shovel, but I can't get much diggin' out of them.

I thought I had problems here in Florida!!! I get an occasional Alligator, but they like dogs more than people. I have has numerous snakes, and there are only three poisonous ones that I have seen near the house. Had a 4' Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, 3' Cottonmouth, and 12 inch Pygmy Rattlesnake. The Diamondback was the least threatening and probably the most poisonous. The Pygmy was the most aggressive!!! He was right outside my front door, but he had a meeting with my .22 rifle with snake shot. I tried to chase him off, but he didn't want to leave. I think he was after the Green Tree Frogs around my house too. The Cottonmouth was very territorial and didn't like me walking near his domain. I always worry about my children near these snakes, but I was least threatened by the Diamondback.

Someone told me that having cats outside helps keep snakes away. They compete with the snake on the rodent population, and the snakes do not like the activity from hearing the cats around the outside of the house. Although, I know nothing about the snakes in Australia and cats may be pray for them.

Good luck on your problem...

King Brown and Mulga snake are the same thing.

http://www.usyd.edu.au/su/anaes/snakebite.html#SNAKEID

Go here for a look

So when I am dying of snake bite, I must remember I need BLACK snake antivenom, not brown snake, as the King Brown is part of the Black Snake family. Got it !!!

I have been using pieces of poly water pipe to teach them geometry but yes, they are slow learners. They go so bloody fast and agressive - Boy !!!

Yes maybe Steve Irwin the Croc Hunter could help. Do you guys watch that crap on TV. He does it all for show you know - None of us really act like clowns like he does !

Cheers
