Snapping Turtle Removal

   / Snapping Turtle Removal #61
They do get to be huge - and OLD. I took 2 HUGE snappers out of my pond that were mating in the water, about 30 years ago, got them on land with the help of my son & two steel garden rakes, turned them over & didn't know what to do with them. Got them into two big shopping cart wire baskets & donated them to a local zoo. The animal handler picked them up by the tails, said they were at least 40 years old. We would not touch them. Can't get anyone to remove them, pest controllers don't do aquatics. With using a hook don't you still have to deal with this nasty snapping animal once you got him? In a trap he is confined and you are in control and it can be safely transported. Tried everything over the years; best way is to leave turtle trap by the bank, chum around a few times to get them used to coming for food first, then leave the trap overnight with bait leading up to the trap.

The bottle disappeared for a few days, then reappeared, the turtle was exhausted.

We dragged him out with a fishing gaff, killed him and ate him.
