Boondox, Stowe, Yep- been there, froze what's left of my **s off there one winter skiing when it was like 50below, not inc wind chill!!
I actually ate my lunch BEFORE getting out of the car to give me extra energy!?:confused2:
Good to know Saranac Lake has good bread:cool:

jenkinsph & scrout, thanks for the suggestions- I will check out Surplus Center for future reference, and Las Vegas is probably bigger than most of my entire state! There are no big cities near me :(

Treemonkey,
I know you know what you're talking about...I did in fact check out Bailey's online but did not find any clamshell typeblocks- but maybe I was in the wrong section?
I hear you on the aluminum! All steel or nothing! I don't like wearing pieces of broken equipment not up to the task, especially while in the woods.;)

Treemonkey,

I was just reviewing Bailey's online and bought the following:
Bailey's - Dixie Industries 20" Swivel Grab Skidding Tongs
I thought it might come in handy, especially since it is a swivel at the ring end, for logs that are too tangled or too big to get a choker chain around.
What do you think? Also, do you ever use the HPPE rope chokers?:Bailey's - HPPE Rope Choker 3/8" x 7'
If not would you say why not.

BTW, those blocks are for personal use only- unless I just didn't look at the specific one you cite being ok for a winch.
Where do you get the 10-20K blocks?

Yeah those tongs and rope choker would be sweet to have. I haven't used that rope choker. Usually I use nylon towing straps if I need or regular chains. Depends on if I were skidding logs across pavement or not. The guys on here have me thinking that a cut down car hood or a wooden piece of plywood to help skid stuff. Another good thing to own is a log arch. That way you can lift the front end up and have less digging in and friction.
The CMI pulleys on there are rated at about 11,000lbs. You might try Wespurs Arborist Rigging Blocks and Pulleys at WesSpur Tree Equipment
The big snatch blocks that I have now I picked up at garage sales for $20 each. The blue one is rated at 24,000 or 2400 lb working load and the grey one is rated at 48,000 lbs or 4800 working load.

Treemonkey,

Sweet blocks man!
I've got the log arch covered, at least for now with a tree cone. You know, the yellow poly cone one puts on the end of the log to skid it without digging the nose of the log into the ground.
