Sneaky..???

When i was doign a daily service of my TC40D i noticed a little plaque on the engine. Made in Japan by Shibaura it read. Hmm i though to myself thats quite sneaky. I say this mainly because in all the literature i devoured whilst looking for a suitable compact, I cannot recall reading in the Boomer brochure that the engine was sourced from Japan. In fact it gave me the opposite impression, that the whole thing was sourced in the US and assembled by people working at the NH plant in Dublin. Now i dont wanna offend fans of japanese gear but i have to say, personally i would much prefer an American made diesel too a Japanese one (mainly due to the reputation of famous american diesel manufacturers). Iam also wondering why NH dont advertise the outsourcing of engines, (as Same and Lamborghini do with their sourcing of Mitsubishi engines) if they are so confident in the ability of the product. Perhaps iam not aware of some market dynamics in the US that dictate their reasoning for this.

Justin, when I was shopping for a compact, I was told that everything (brand) less than 40 hp came from Japan. I've since heard anything less that 100 hp. Don't know which is true. My preference was for US made also. But when I found that out, I decided to buy the one that didn't try to hide the fact that it was Japanese.

The recession(s) in the '80s effectively killed the domestic compact market. When the 90's came along, no one was tooled up to make the little guys, so everyone farmed (pun intended /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif) out the work to other countries.

I buy American for my cars/trucks, but I also recognize that we can not do everything cost effectively. At least GA, where the tractors are assembled, gets a little piece of the action from John Deere.

Hopefully the last few years have gotten JD to think about truly building here.

Here's one,Shibauru makes there own version of the Boomer.looks the same on the brochure.I stopped to look at some impliments here in Bama at a mom and pop and the Owner showed me the Brochure for there version of the TC21's.He said they were considering selling in the states and were sending them to prospective dealers.BTW it was supposed to retail for about 1k or so less than its BLue cousin,there's being red...I wonder if they have decided???I'd like to see one up close just for the sake of seing it....

Well, let me ask a question. Why should they? I guess it's just how you look at it.
When I bought my TC29D, I asked the dealer and he told me. I thought I also saw it in one of the brochures. They aren't hiding it, but as you said, they just aren't advertising it.
It may sound silly, but I have this thing where I refuse to buy clothing that has logos or advertising for some company or corporation. Why should I pay them, to advertise for them?
They should at least give me the thing. In a few cases I have turned down some gimme hats, and such, because I refuse to advertise for the giver.
Dodge advertises the cummings engine heavily. They must feel as it is in their interest to do so. For years Ford used International diesel engines, and didn't advertise it. I guess it's just buisness.

Kubota motto??????? I could guess, but choose not to offend anyone! Don't even have an old Kubota brochure to look at, cleaned out my file from my tractor shopping days.

Jim, You have alot of info on the NH Boomer can you clear up the Boomer assembly question. Are all Boomers assembled in USA with parts from Shibaura? The brochure I have seems to suggest that.

To the best of my knowledge, the TC18 and 21's are fully assembled in Japan. I say this because my TC18 says right on the front bumper on the tractor model/engine plate "New Holland North America, Inc. Made in Japan" and the TC21's are the same frame size, so this is my assumption. I believe that the TC25-TC45 are assembled in a plant in Dublin, GA?
All engines on the TC18-45 are Shibaura engines as far as I know. I can't find any reference to Shibaura in my brochure or in my Operator's Manual. My dealer always acknowledged that it was a Shibaura engine, I was never misled by my dealer.

Most people that do the research, like I did before buying, find out that many of the compacts have engines made by someone else. I believe that the JD4100 is like my TC18 in that it is fully assembled in Japan, this is something I've heard or read...maybe here.

Lots of people will say that Kubota is "Kubota" but how do you get any proof that Kubota doesn't outsource some components/parts/etc?

Just remember one thing about New Holland, THEY ARE THE WORLD'S LARGEST MANUFACTURER OF AGRICULTURAL EQUIPMENT! In addition, I think that New Holland is catching on in the compact market with the Boomers. I contacted a dealer in my area, not my dealer, for a price comparison on FEL...this guy sells Kubota and New Holland and he said that Kubota used to outsell NH at his dealership but this past year they sold more NH, that's what customers wanted.
