With near record high temperature today, and the mild winter we are getting, the ducks have started demanding that I get the pond open for them. What I have is a hot tub snorkel stove anchored in my small woodland pond. It's a wood hog so I normally only fire it up late in the winter just before the warm weather shows up, to give the ducks a head start. 1454521806004.jpg1454521816714.jpg1454521827243.jpg

I use a Cowboy Heater for my primitive hot tub (aka stock tank) heater.

If I had seen that a few years ago, I would have gotten that. I paid $500 for my used snorkel stove. Mine's aluminum. I'd rather have the stainless steel one.

Those are still used occasionally around here in stock tanks.

DocTinker - that is the dangdest thing that I've ever seen! You have lucky ducks!! LOL!

Also love the "Cowboy Hot Tub"!! Reminds me of an old neighbor.... My first house was in the city - houses 10' apart, tiny yards, etc. Neighbor across the street used to talk about "her pool" in the back yard and was super tan all the time. Come to find out that they had a 8' or 10' diameter round tank from TSC that they'd filled with water and even put in a circulating pump and small filter to keep it clean. She used to lay in that thing in a "floaty chair" to keep her tan up! LOL!!

LOL - Yep, they are spoilt. So are our chickens. They have an insulated and heated house too. If one of them gets sick, they get to come in and hang out with us, watching TV and basking by the woodstove. Some of them like to come inside with us. They will even walk up to the side gate and tell us that they want to join us. If a groundhog gets into their house, we have a hen who will walk up to the side gate and talk about it until the Mrs goes out and chases "Chuck" out.
