I want to get a snow blower for my 64 yo mother. She has a short steep driveway and about 50' of sidewalk. Most of out snows are in the 2" - 6" range, but of course we get the big ones once or twice a year...

Here are my main considerations:
- Easy starting
- Easy handling
- Easy maintainance

Notice that I'm not too worried about power and longevity - I want something that she's comfortable using. Should I get one of those electric Toro's that Home Depot sells? Any other suggestions?

I think the small electric Toro may be okay. The gas powered ones require a significant amount of manhandling to turn - she may not be up to the task.

My neighbor in MD had a Toro electric "shovel" It had paddle wheels to fling the snow as your pushed it along. It had no wheels for transport - it simply glided along. It worked well for small snows and short distances like you describe.

I would take her with you and let her decide on which one she feels comfortable with. She may even have some suggestions herself on what she wants. My 2 cents. G
