it would be nice to have a tractor with a steering wheel and controls in the rear too. Lots less sore necks/backs.

What is the tractor?

Thats why the inverted blower is a better idea. Dad used one for 30 years, next blower will be inverted again.

The NH or Versatile bi-directional aren't by any stretch new to me but those Fendt and Valtra are NIICCEEEE! I've never seen the rotating platform on a conventional frame tractor.

Dave, What's with the chains on your old Oliver? One set wasn't enough?

CDN Farm Boy
No not an Oliver but a Nuffield 465 sometimes referred to by its later name Leyland. Fitted with a John Deere cab.
The first set of chains would work its way down between the Ag tire lugs and do nothing.
In my younger days, I had purchased a Volvo military truck (like a C303 but with a Canadian designation 4141) and a mass of spares from the Canadian Government surplus.
Among the parts were bags and bags of truck tire chains of very high quality.
I did not have the patience to cut the chains apart and make a set to fit the 16.9 x 30 tires so I just threw them on top of the original chains.
Worked amazingly well on the 2WD tractor. The Nuffield tractor was much heavier than my current M7040 4x4 Kubota and it would drag the inverted blower through anything.

Does anyone actually make a reversible snow blower? He drags out that snow, but then what? If he drives forward (uh, backward) , he will blow most of it away, but not all.

There are reversible blowers. The Artix CDN Farm Boy mentioned is one.

I think there are some european manufacturers as well but their names escape me

The Pronovost PXPL is pretty much the same as the Artix.
Normand has one they call the "Function +" but it's a clumsy looking mechanical linkage to rotate a "blade" around the bottom of the blower essentially building off a conventional push blower rather than the completely different design of the PXPL and Artix

Went in at 2 am to run my route this morning only to find out that the guy I'm filling in for broke something on the Artix and they had a Pronovost mounted instead. Considering the forecast, they should have the Artix back up and running by the next time I go out.

Most of the major manufactures I have seen are based right here in Quebec. Not that there aren't others, just that they aren't that popular in these parts.

It's not feasible to get 100% of the snow thru the blower, there will always be a bit leftover. Just feather out the last shovel full and get on with things or pull it with you to the next drive when working in suburbia.

I saw the Nuffield listed on your profile but at quick glance at the pic it registered Oliver due to the deeper shade of green. Looking a second time, I see the Nuffield red on the rear axle. I've only ever seen blue Leyland, the colour switch must have come with the name switch?

Makes sense with the chains. The least amount of work to do what you need to.

That versatile is actually kind of big for driveways. A friend drove one a couple of winters ago doing sub-division streets with a snow pusher although I can't see a pusher being much good for streets..

That reversible blower is awesome. How well do they handle deep snow? Say 2-3 feet? And what about cost? If I was not working on a self powered blower for the front of my loader, I would get one. That is slick!

Funny though. All the videos only show little amounts of snow! Something a child with a plastic shovel could deal with. Let's see some snow!

What is an "inverted" blower? That means upside down, doesn't it?

I've wondered about how the PXPL or Artix would handle deep snow and hoping to get the chance to find out in the coming weeks. I've been in snow belly deep with the odd drift nearly as tall as the front tire with the Case 120 with the inverted Normand without issue. Same thing the one winter I had a JD 6330, no problem belly deep. If you can drive thru it, an inverted will work.

I can't see that working with these bi-directional snowblowers but they are made for the burbs where we never let the snow get more than several inches, a foot at most with a big storm. That's why they only show 6-8" of snow in the videos, they aren't meant for big accumulation.
