Snow-blower: Woods vs Lucknow

   / Snow-blower: Woods vs Lucknow #11
I had a four foot Lucknow for 15 years and had no problems with it. It wasn't the most refined looking unit but it threw snow off the driveway into woods and used to break a lot of shear pins until I welded it solid and never had any issues again for the next 14 years I owned it. I'll guess and say I may have put 50 hours total on it until I got a bigger tractor. I found a used Meteor and have been using it for the past two years. I might have two hours on it so far, found it in a guys barn, the impeller didn't even have the paint barely scratched off it, paid $500 bucks for it (60").

I checked out the Pronovost P620. What an awesome looking machine, definitely a step up from Woods and Lucknow. I spoke to a distributor in Pennsylvania who gave me list prices, WOW, talk about expensive, $4600 list for a 62 inch snowblower, now I've got to find a dealer who discounts the stuff 35% (I think that's going to be tough)

If you tell people what you're using the blower on, and where you're located people might be able to recommend a dealer or a specific model.

What type of conditions will you be using it under?

medicshawn-I live in northwest New Jersey and the snow blower will be used on a relatively flat 1/4 mile driveway. The tractor is a Kubota L3400.

A new Blizzard 64" is under 3K around here (western NH) I think they are about $2800-$2900. I've been looking at the next size smaller so I'm not positive about that. The best price I've seen on the B54 (54") is $2470.

The P620 is what is referred to as a "REAL Pronovost" around here...Years back there was only one Pronovost "model" blower. Then they realized there was a "Budget" market so they made the "Puma" lineup...pricing on the Puma is 1/2 of what you were quoted, BUT as you can imagine they arent the same.... For example the P620 has a 22" fan, the Puma 64 has a 20" fan...Take a look at the weight....P620 = 575 lbs, Puma 64 = 362 lbs.

Bang for the buck...you cant beat the specs/quality/performance of the Blizzard.

Well thanks for all the advice. I ended up buying a Blizzard B64 (24 inch fan, 60 chain, 434 lbs) for $2675 in New Hampshire. It has a manual chute control which I will try at least for this winter. I looked at a Puma but it did not have the same heft (20 inch fan, 50 chain, HP rating only up 25 my Kubota is 35, and the weight is 380). By the way, the "real" Provonost machine in the size I would want is back ordered till the end of January and is too expensive for my needs.

Neither....I've seen both in person, my dad has a Lucknow...My Take

-Woods...Great quality, but not a good snow blower...Small diameter fan, only 3 blades. It will last forever becauce of the typical great Woods quality, but just not be the best blower around. I'd classify the Woods as a "snow shifter" as it just shifts the snow over 7-8 feet

Wow...I have had both. I had an 84" Lucknow for years, and I like the Woods better. real simple, the Woods never broke, The Lucknow did. And as far as the Woods only blowing the snow 7 or 8 feet??? I live in the WNY Snowbelt. It's not unusual to wake up to 2 or 3 feet. The Woods LAUNCHES the snow. I mean LAUNCHES! There was someone on here last year with pics of a Woods SS blower blowing 2 feet of snow. Pictures don't lie. Good luck.

Congrats!

I purposely bought the manual rotation and did this to it:

Cheap, easy, and I like this method better then the Cylinder setup they offer..

I am just back from the local JD dealer. I bought ballast box.

I was looking at the Meteor snowblowers and the Frontier's. The Frontier looks to have it all over the Meteor.

I hope to have a Frontier by next winter.

My mind is made up.
