Snow chains on yet?

just put the front and rear chains on this morning. was 16F outdoors, but luckily the shop is heated.

Took about 1/2 the time it took me last year. Guess it gets easier over time....till Alzheimer kicks in hehe.

Were due for moreView attachment 292275 snow all week. have about 4-5" on the ground, and more falling. finally. i hate not having a white xmas to get the sleighs out.

I really like the 2 hp an sleight..........It really puts everything in line......Your very lucky as are the back seaters.....

What makes it so hard? Jack the tractor up, set them on the top, and hook them together. Not that difficult, and easy as pie.

Look at the guys up on the Canadian Ice roads, they can have them on in no time!!

Hey Innisfil chains are not allowed on our roads that being said I have chains on my cub cadet lol.

What kind of shoes are you running on the Fjords and do you feel the need to go to chains?

I just put the new chains I received from Tirechains.com on my tractor, with the help of my son. Was not easy to get them tight on our ag tires but we did. Tirechains.com's instructions are to lay the chains out and drive over them. We did that on one side but found it easier to lay the chain over the top of the tire with one of us moving the tractor and the other guiding the rest of the chain onto the tire as it moved. That is the way they did it when he snowplowed for the county road department years ago. We were able to get it tighter that way.
I used them yesterday for the first time. Made a big difference. I got their Duo-Ladder with the extra cross chains.

they go barefooted thruout winter. it it gets icy, i have clip on EasyBoots with borium inserts for the horses.

I wanted to try plowing without chains first snow storm; 12 inches, 2600 ft gravel rolling driveway and all went well 'cept for a few spots. I put the rear chains on today by jacking up the back of tractor (BX2660). The first wheel took me 1:20, once I knew what to do the second wheel took only 20 minutes.

By the way, I used a HarborFreight ATV/Motorcycle jack to lift the rear of the tractor, worked perfectly.

We used to have a set of runner chains for the sap sled. They were to help the horses hold it back going down an icy hill, not to make it go. I've seen shoes for heavy horses that had inch long caulks or corks screwed or welded to them as many as six per shoe. The horse wearing them learns to stamp his foot down to set them in the ice but a kick can cut the other horse in the team so they are not without draw backs. Boots you can put on just when needed sound like a good deal if the team takes to them.

Our farrier tells us she can't get the borium tipped nails she used to use, so we're back to using carbide studs on the one horse we keep shoes on during the winter. I wasn't convinced the borium nails worked that well anyway, but I'm not a farrier either.

ive tried borium nails before also...wasnt too thrilled with the results. Welded borium worked loads better.

The easy Boots with studs allow for not having shoes during the winter...the horses thank me for it.

Somewhere in the distant past I vaguely (sp?) remember someone wiring the chain set to the tire with the vehicle jacked up. Then it was a matter of rotating the tire to pull the rest of the chain around to bring the ends together. Anyone do it this way?
