Wanted a wider plow with some wings on the side to help reduce the spillage I get when plowing.

Started out bending up some 3/16 plate to match the profile of the blade and then cut them to marry up at the angle I wanted them.

After that it's was a simple matter of welding them on.

And a coat of high gloss paint so the snow won't stick.

All mounted up with the two small cutting edges bolted on.

Next I wanted to add a snow deflector to the blade. I bought a 4" strip of convayer belt and a length of 1 1/2" by 3/16" angle iron and a length of 1 1/4" by 3/16" flat bar.

I had to add a piece of angle iron to he front of the balde to get the right angle for the snow deflector. I also cut the angle on the ends to match the wings I added and then welded the ends solid. The angle was then bolted to the plow. Once the angle was bolted on I cut the flat bar to match the angle of the angle iron. Then I added the convayer belt and clamped and drilled everything for 1/4" grade 8 bolts.

All painted and ready to go.

Nice job. That should allow you to carry a lot more snow without it falling off. I've heard the HLA blades are good quality. Was that a 6' blade?

The blade is 78". I was going to buy a 90" 2000 series but it was a lot more weight and money. The blade does a lot better job carrying the snow. Very pleased with it so far.

Nice, I'm thinking you should have added some sort of braces at the back of your wings,
if you hit something solid with that wing, it will bend at the weld.
If it's just for your driveway, you should be good.

I've got the same blade you started with... but never used it, since buying it last winter sort of insured we wouldn't get any snow, at least enough to plow. Seems like a well made plow, but since I downsized my tractor, I have the opposite concern, about the 78" being too wide. We'll see if it pushes the front of my tractor around? Your mods look very functional, but I would share skyhook's concerns about bending...

Nice job . But all of your mods that you have done look good . I am thinking about getting one also but not knowing how heavy a 90 inch would be has kept me from buying . I guess not knowing what one to buy is the problem . My truck has a 7.5ft blade and I can't see anything smaller than 7ft would be any good for my tractor . I haven't been in to town in a while and Don didn't have any in at that time . I am glad that I bought the forks the last time I was in there . I use them every time I have to move something . I didn't think at the time how well that item would work out for me .

The wings are one piece 3/16" plate bent on a press. The shape itself adds a lot of strength to the blade. The wings matches up perfectly to blade and is welded solid. I had planned on adding braces but I decided to test it first. I plowing a few driveways and a commercial lot with it and ran it into a concrete step (on purpose) and it didn't make a mark on the blade. I thing I will leave the braces off for now. If I bend it I have the tools to fix it.

When I bought my blade off Don the widest you could get was 78" in the 1000 series. If I ad my time back I would of looked at a wider 2000 series blade. The biggest issue with the 2000 series is the added weight.

Looks like a good idea;my thoughts if I did this I would only do one side, some times you want the snow to roll off(roadways ect.)
