I've been using an 8' wide snow plow to move snow off to the sides of my long driveway and then to move snow around our buildings but the plow sheds too much snow with long pushes (100' to 150'). I have a 78" snow bucket which is better but it means I have to drop the plow and disconnect the hydraulic lines for the angle control. I thought that adding wings to the wider plow may be better than using the snow bucket. So into the shop I go, to make some.

Today we had about 6" to 7" of wet sloppy snow and then it started to rain. I hadn't quite finished the wings but figured this wet heavy stuff would be a good test to see if they would hold up or if I needed to reinforce them. I was very surprised at how well they worked and that they didn't bend or break anything with the super heavy load the plow was pushing. It was so heavy that the loader wouldn't lift the plow if I ran the load into the snow piles before trying to lift it. I had to take care to start lifting it as I was approaching the snow piles.

Here are some pics of the unfinished wings. Next I will cut off the extra materials behind the plow and then paint it.

I don't have as big a tractor as you do but I did something similar to my bucket.

I put removable wings on it and maid a quasi pusher out of it. I was amazed at the amount of snow you can control with wings attached.

That's a great idea and I bet you can move a lot of snow with it. Thanks for posting the pic.

The snow box setup is the way to go for moving large amounts of snow to somewhere else. Having the ability to angle it is not always a plus unless you have some serious weight behind it. After using a snow pusher, it's hard to think about going back to a straight blade that just angles. I use a 8' Boss pusher on my Cat 246. ..it's like cheating. The one thing I wish it had that others do is a back drag blade. But due to its design, I don't think it can even be retrofitted.

Somewhere on TBN we discussed your HLA plow wings. Thanks for the ideas and inspiration. I finally got around to making a set based on your design, and they came out well.
Here's the almost complete wings. I'm going to add UHMW polyethylene to the bottom of the plates when I get the material.
