Snow Plow Woes

Maybe a smaller center pin will give more slop for float. My bucket hooks on two L brackets with 2" gap, I could use 4" gap to so the blade would float from side to side better. I have slight angle for both side that is held by a pin, full angle the blade sticks out to far.

I was out plowing today with my 18 year old straight 9' Fisher snow plow mounted on my Ram 3500 one ton when I thought of this thread. When I got to the end of the road out of curiosity I stopped and raised the plow to see how much slop it had. I grabbed one corner and pulled up hard as I could. I was only able to move it up about 2". That figures to about +/- 1 degree of rotation. Most of the flex was allowed by the pins in the push plate connection. It was a lot tighter than I thought it would be. Makes me wonder if the problem people have with the tractor SSQA plows is that they don't set them level so when they are angled one corner digs in and rotational flex is not the issue ?????????????

Edit: but rotational flex will allow the plow to sit flat even if the frame is not set level so it is a good thing.

HLA plows have lateral float built in. I had the 2000 series on my smaller tractor now have the 3000 series on the current one.

Must work good, dont see any snow on the driveway coarse a monster LS tractor might help to. Looks like they make smaller plows plows for smaller tractors...............

Do you recall a ballpark figure on what the 2000 series cost you? Is the "Max Operating Weight" the bare chassis weight, or the weight of entire tractor, all in with attachments and ballast weights? If it's bare chassis weight, I could choose the 2000 series, but if it's "all in" weight, I'd have to jump up to the 3000 series.

Hiniker makes some nice plows too, with float and oscillation. Mine has served me well. MinnesotaEric has a similar one, and has several videos with it plowing snow.

I have the HLA 2000 and it has oscillation but does not have float and for me that was a real problem. My driveway is gravel, with lots of ups and downs (humps, dips or whatever you want to call them) and without float it was a nightmare to use the plow. I ended up coming with a way to make it float and now it is much easier to use and it does a better job. I've watched a few of Eric's videos and prefer his Hiniker plow to mine. His has a built in float and it seems to have a better trip mechanism. His trip recovery doesn't bang back up really hard, like mine does. I know the trip is adjustable and I have mine set very soft but it still bangs up hard. I believe it is the way the Hiniker springs are mounted, that make it recover softer.

I appreciate all this info on plow blades guys. I'm still trying to decide if I want a front plow blade, or a front snow pusher box. I'm weighing my options and reading it all. Thanks.
