snow plowing w\\ box blade

I have a gravel drive that gradually goes up hill. I did one half of the drive with the fel ( no chains B2710) without any problem. The other side was icy, and I started sliding sideways towards an embankement. I stopped the tractor lifted the fel and moved towards the middle of the drive, where I gained traction again. The next time I went to do that icy side of the drive I lowerd my box blade with the scaffers (is that what you call them?) and it cleared the snow(about 6")and broke up the ice. I have never seen any post on the use of a box blade on snow, any comments?
Thanx Tom

I think you'll find that the general opinion is that if it works without damaging you, your tractor or the driveway then you can notch up another tractor trick to the collective wisdom. Improvisation is part of the game - although you may want to look at some of the threads here on snow chains after looking at that picture!

Re: snow plowing w\\ box blade

I shortened the top link on mine so that the rear facing blade is about 1" off the ground as I go backwards, this puts the front facing blade on the ground still so it can dig forward if needed, this setup allows the rear blade to push the majority of the snow and puts pressure on the box for the front blade to scrape down the the ground without tearing up the driveway.

Well if it works that is all that counts. Here is an expanded idea that stemmed from using a boxblade. The advantage this has is skidshoes and a rubber cutting edge.

Gordon,

Those things are all over here in Upstate NY now. Where I live, they've been sitting in parking lots, unused, for the whole season.

They are funny looking though.
