Hey cowwface and bpattie---I live within 40-50 miles from either of you, we have NO snow-Jefferson Co. (OK 1/4") at 9800ft elevation

I began plowing with my atv, switched to a truck mounted plow, switched to a tractor/loader combo(M-F 2300), last year got a front mounted snowblower--best thing ever invented!!!

Just my .02

Ken

Hey Amkfken,

I wonder if it was the air pushing up against the east side of the mountains that stoped it from getting to you?

We were thinking about one last camping/ATV hourah out to the "China Wall" trail south of you.. do you think it's still passable?

We head out 285 quite a bit, camping in summer and to Breckenridge in the Winter.. how about the "nut jobs" that pass people on that streach west of Jefferson! I don't know why people just can slow down a bit? PLUS the view west at the top of Kenosha pass is one of my Favorites!

Carry on my Co brethren...

I spent one winter using the FEL to move snow. Figured it would do - in a pinch.

I moved to a front 7' Western plow. Usually 8-10 times in a winter get asked by the neighbor who has an ATV plow, to come down and move snow back out of the way for him. I don't mind, and he just gets envious of my plow. (grin).

Hey BeenThere,

Do the snowplow hydraulics operate off of the FEL lever? One issue I have with my ATV plow is when the snow is deep, it can't scower off to the side since the snow is deeper than blade height.

PLUS... I have to admit I have images in my head of "Captin Kirk" sittin on the tractor seat and playing with the front end lever... "SCOTTY... I NEED MORE POWER!!!!" Don't know if my egg shell ego could give that up? hehehe..

Phill ... Working on the pic's next...

For me the decision is whether to use the ATV plow or the 3PH 60" blower.

If the snow is about 6" or less it's the plow above that the blower. It's more a matter of time. The ATV plow is 2-3 times faster than the blower.

Hey List,

Ok here are a few pictures of the recent snow...

The last one is what we call the "Snow Cow". If the snow gets up to the cow my Wife and I have agreed that I don't have to goto work that day. I'm not sure, but I think she keeps moving it higher when I'm at work? hehehe.

Carry on,
Phill

Say it hain't so /this can't be snow all ready .
Well I just wanted to post a quick note here about pushing snow with a tractor vs ATV. We have got about 3.5 feet of snow here in Conifer and this is my first year using my tractor to push it around the driveway and our road... about 1/4mile long.Carry on,

Phil,

I live in Black Forest, just North of COlorado Springs, snowing like crazy here also, but not as much as you. Looks like the storm is stronger North of the Palmer Divide. haven't even thought about clearing snow yet, wind is so strong it will be blown back in before I could finish. Having used a tractor for snow now for about 20 years I would agree with your observations. The rear blade works fine for me up to about 9-10 inches. any more than that it would require more than one pass if using the blade. I have used the bucket as you mentioned several times on BIG snows especially if it is wet snow like Springs storms and had the same results as you. Though I usually push it off to the side a few times due to curves in Drive. supposed to stop sometime tonight so will either get out then or in AM. Anxious to see your pictures

Hey Bill,

I got my tractor from down in your neck of the woods. I think it was Lake George...Hitchinpost trailer sales. Vic, the owner is a real stand up guy!

How did the snow end up treating you down there?

Glad to hear this as I am entering my first Maine winter with a tractor. How's the skiing out there.??
Best winter wepon+= find a warmer southern spot.

Hey List.
1) The tractor is MUCH better for larger amounts of snow like this. (3-4 feet)
OF Course.

If you get dumps like that very often you're in need of a blower!
Or getting outa there.

Im still waiting for snow to play with my Yanmar. Now all I need to do is go down to the neighbors place where the neighbor wants to build me a front blade for free. I just need to drive the yanmar down there so he can measure it. Then I just hook up to my rear blade and let it snow.:D And I also need to get the carhartt out of the closet.

Phill,

well we faired better than you if ya really don't like the big snows. ended up with maybe 10 inches and some drifting. was going to post that you did a nice job with the bucket. is you drive dirt/gravel or black top. it is always a challenge for me to not tear up the gravel/natural drive using the bucket. with only the 10 inches I used rear blade which turn out fine, one pass up the middle blade straight and then pass up each side with the blade angled. did 2 neighbors also, but theirs are easier and not as long as mine. WOW 3.5 feet, now that is a good early storm.
