I don't remember the threads but there have been guys who did do damage going in reverse. Maybe someone who has less senior moments than me might be able to point you in that direction.

Yep... there's a fair number of posts regarding damage to 3pt arms when pushing material in reverse. Including mine..

I buggered up (had to replace it) the adjustable vertical link on my JD 970 when I was stuck in the bottom of a ditch. I was attempting to rock the tractor back and forth in 1st gear and reverse to get enough movement and traction to pull up the shoulder of the ditch.

It's pretty tight quarters in the bottom of a road ditch... and I had enough momentum in reverse when I caught the corner of the rear blade (7' blade) it rocked the tractor up and off to the side and bent the adjustable side link!

If you do a search on "plowing in reverse with a rear blade" you'll find a number of horror stories!

messing up the 3pt arms must be a 'newer' tractor problem. i've read many threads here about it, but i've beat the heck out of my 1950's Ford 600 in (forward and) reverse w/ the box blade. ram into rocks, stumps, trees, saplings...never a problem. but, i'm nearly scared to death to even use the box in forward on my JD 4300!

i've done 90 degree turns w/ the Ford when the box catches an underground root and lifts the front up and spins the tractor left/right and never had a thought of damaging something....just not like that w/ the JD.
