Snow Attachments Snow removal? Snowblower? Chains?

Royboy, I have had a rear blade, front blade, rear mount blower and now a front mount on my B7510 19 hp. By far the front mount is the easiest to use and no neck strain. My Kubota is about the same size as yours. The blower is about $1700 to $2000 and the mount for the front is about $2300 and drive shaft is another $500. If you must have a blower and for the life of me I dont know why you would spend that much for something that will sit for most of its life, I would opt for the rear mount for ease of attachment only. They are quick on and off. I live in Erie county PA and we get snow falls that measure 12" at a time we average about 200" a year. and I agree with the fact that blowers move the snow away from the drive and you only have to deal with it ONCE. If you mount a blower on the front you will need either wheel weights or some other balast as the blower weighs about 500#. With it mounted on the back no need for more weight. So you have to figure that into the equation.
Now for the tire question I have the same tire you describe( I say they look like Charlie Browns shirt) they are called an extra trac tire and love them they are less agressive than ag tires but more traction than turff and for me better to mow with than R4 tires. I do not have any problems getting where I want to go with them. I do use chains with them in the snow but dont think I realy need them as I have abot #400 of rear wheel weights. I had a ford 1310 4wd tractor and put chains on the front and tore the front axle out of it. I do not recomond them I know others on here do but I will not use them on the front again! Just my opinion. Good luck with the quandry. Lastly if it were me I would use the FEL and use the $3500 for other more usefull toy.....er tools for the tractor!

jakedog,

And...the tractor is stuck :( . My husband got too close to the edge and it started to slide, and it slid right off the side. That is with the chains. And, to make it worse, it is soggy under all the snow where it slid off, so it is not frozen, solid ground. Tomorrow morning will be fun. The only consolation is that it slid off on the no-fence side, which gives more room for working it out.

The front mount snow blowers sound fantastic, but my older tractor doesn't have a quick attach FEL, so rear mount it is, since a new tractor is definitely not in the budget for a while.

Next year there won't be any snow, so you'll spend big money in a knee jerk reaction to a rare event that will not repeat. A generator is a far wiser purchase in case you lose power. That is by far more important than having a clear driveway. Whatever you have done in past winters will be the strategy you should continue with.

Yep, agree it is better to have a generator just incase you lose power, but regarding the big snows, that was said in 2003 and we got slammed this year, we will definitely get slammed again, it is just that it might not be for a few years. however, when you need it, you really need it. That is why a lot of Snowblower sales were so high in the last 2 weeks.
