Here's a couple of pics of the DIY snowblower shield ($29 complete) that I mentioned yesterday.

See what I mean about everyone having a favorite method? I would ignore any advice from someone who tells you that “Such and such is the best way”, or “Such and such way is worthless”. They obviously think their way is the only way and not likely giving you impartial advice.

Yes, I see what you mean. But there's lots of good information in most people's posts for someone with a grand total of 4 hours of seat time, none of it in winter weather.

I'm tending towards gatting a rear-facing snowblower, and since I can't afford a cab, also getting a pair of heavy-duty coveralls and some ski goggles. Gonna build me a body-cab since I can't afford a tractor-cab. :)

A helmet with face shield (snowmobile or warm motorcycle) is a lot warmer than hat and goggles on a cold day, but I use both.

Hi Daniel, I have posted a lot at TBN about snow blowing (search using "snow" and user name "rbargeron") I have had a 6' draw-forward rear mount, a 7' backup style rear-mount and most recently an Erskine 6 ft front mount, driven from the rear pto. I find the Erskine front-mount is my favorite setup overall. I'm planning to get a seven-foot Erskine front mount this year - so my six-footer will be for sale. The Erskine setup is heavy-duty, easy to attach, and easier on your neck.

It was made by Snow Machines. I don't have it any more so I can't tell the model - pretty sure they are no longer available. There is a current rear-mount forward-pull model made by Erskine. They turn up on Craigslist now and then.

Each way has its advantages. For my area I like the front mounted snow plow. Its quick and mounted up to my Jinma 28HP tractor I can handle 18" of snow and deeper drifts. Our average dump is 6-8". I plow 2 miles of road and about 10 150' to 600' long drives. I can knock it out in just over a hour.

If I lived where more snow was common there would be no doubt a blower would be the best.

I made due for years with a 7' Woods Grader Blade and the FEL bucket. It was slow but got the job done.

There is no right or wrong way. Its what is best for your area and machine. It takes a lot of weight to push a 7' plow like I do. My tractor weighs 5,200# to 5,600# depending on load. A 2,500# machine could not do what I do but it would handle more snow than I could ever handle with a blower.

Chris
