Those of you with snowblowers, how are they driven? Do you have a shaft from the PTO running under the tractor to drive the auger and the fan or is it a hydraulic motor? If it's a hydraulic motor where is the oil coming from? Do you use a pto powered pump or the remote valves of the tractor?

Rear mounted blower are powered from the rear PTO on the tractor turning at 540 RPM. Front mounted blowers are powered from a Mid-PTO turning at about 2100 RPM. CUT's do not have enough GPM output to power hydraulic snowblowers.

Here is a "sprocket box" that was made to operate a front mounted snow blower back in the 50's. A sprocket box similar to the one on front was mounted to the PTO in the rear to offset and drive to the front. This was before the drive lines had protective shields. You learned to be more careful thataway!

This is a blower that my Dad manufactured. Twin rotors.

True in many cases, but there are exceptions - like front blowers driven by a shaft from the rear 540 pto, and the growing market for add-on "wet kits" that produce high flow hydraulic power from a rear pto pump to run hydraulic implements. Like with everything else, change is inevitable, and its often good.

Wow - major piece of work ! Looks like the rotary snow plows on locomotives ! Very cool.

TRR,

Snow blowers for tractors are available any way that you wish to drive or can afford them.

Rear PTO powered push backwards and pull forwards types.

Rear PTO powered drive shaft to front mounted blower.

Hydraulic driven front or rear mounted powered by the tractor hydraulics or a rear PTO powered pump.

Front PTO drive blowers seem to be pretty much only available from the tractor manufacturer.

Here's a link to some of the types mention above.

My rear snowblower is PTO driven with manual chute rotation.
