I am not sure of the HP of your tractor, but my experience with my 30 HP Kubota and a 60" 3-PT snowblower has been exceptional. With the bucket loader in the front and the blower in the back there is nothing that stops me - even on a long hill of a dirt road. JRW of Canada made mine and it has been a beautiful machine - highly recommend it.

If you can try your friends I would start there, I wouldn't be so worried about the weight as long as it's under the limit. From reading these forums, it seems the smaller under 20hp machines should be running 48" and the larger ones 60".

Ithink the horse power [pto]rule of thumb is 5 hp per foot of blower. That said any thing larger ..go slow on the first pass:)
If your friends is 100 lbs shy ,your good to go

Thanks everyone for the great ideas. This site has been great in giving a new comer like myself some valuable real world ideas on what works (or not) with our smaller tractor. She is a 27hp 4wd tractor and has been great so far. It came with a small backhoe which is probably only useful for digging holes to plant trees but the price was right.
Thanks again.

How about buying a lawn tractor that fits the snow blower. I bet that would be the cheapest. I much prefer this myself. This is the rig I use

This is about 18 inches of 24 I got out of this storm. I have never had a problem with this walking through what ever I put in front of it.

I too suggest checking your area craiglists and other used stuff sites for a PTO 3 point snowblower.

Last winter we had way too much snow :( My back blade/loader combo couldn't pile the snow any higher. Also, the novelty of clearing snow with my tractor had worn off as well.

I checked the "for sale" sites and ended up posting a "wanted" ad to which someone responded back to. He suggested his neighbor might have a used snowblower that was 5 or 6 feet wide. I called the guy and sure enough he had an Ontario Mennonite made 5 foot Agrotrend. I went to see it and it was like brand new;even the stickers were like new. I paid the man $700 and we loaded it on to my truck.

No more snow banks :) My 30HP (22HP at PTO) tractor throughs the snow up to 50 feet. I love my tractor and snowblower ;)
