Snowblowers and gravel driveways

Hello Dave7040,

DO you have the 2 pieces of thick flat stock you will need drilled out for the stub axles diameter before you have them welded solid to the plate before you weld them to the scraper?

These images may make my plans clearer.

The new trailer axle with stub axle and hub assembly at each end will be cut so I have two short pieces of the axle with the hub and wheel attached.

The axle pieces will be welding to the 1/2" thick steel 3 x 3 angle and 3" x1/2" flat stock which make up the arms for my rear blade.

By being attached to the rear blade, I can use the rear blade's two hydraulic cylinder to raise and lower the wheels.

I expect to just remove the wheels from their hubs once the ground is frozen so the blade can scrape surfaces clean

The rear blades hinges are made from 3/4" hydraulic cylinder tangs and are very tough.

I have been using the blower and rear blade as a box blade for spreading ground and gravel. It has survived three years so i have no concerns with the loads that will be imposed by the wheels.

Dave, that looks like it'll work great! Good thinking!

What I did that works very well.
I welded wider and somewhat longer skids onto my factory blower skids.
Mine are about 2-3" wide and 12" long with both ends turned up like ski tips.
They never dig in, possibly leave an inch of compacted 'base' but on the plus side never blow gravel on my grass.
On my 4th winter with no gravel to clean up come spring.

Put your existing skids high as you can get them, first snow fall just drive other the snow and create a snow pack
