chrisinknox,
Last winter (2001-2002) I had priced a Woods SS60 3 pt. snowblower from my local dealer. Early in the season...I think around November, he quoted me about $2200 or so. Around January, he quoted me about $2400. In the Spring, around late April-early May, I noticed he still had one on his lot (we didn't get much snow that winter). I asked him if he wanted to "move it"? I asked him to sharpen his pencil and if the price was right, I'd take it off his hands. He said $1950, I said "I'll take it". Boy, was I glad 'cause it got a workout this winter.
I know other 3 pt. blowers may be cheaper, but his final price seemed good in comparison to others I've seen on the 'net for the Woods blowers, plus, we do live in New England, where we typically pay a bit more.
Anyway, my guess is that if the dealer has one on his lot, you might get a better deal this time of year. It worked in my case.
As far as sizes, if you get a lot of snow, and upstate NY seems to get more than its share, I would probably stay around 50"-54" width. A bit wider than the tractor should do. If you're getting a 3 pt. mount, than get one about as wide as the loader.
My
B2910 handled the 60" pretty well, but I had to slow down to a crawl when the cutting through 30" banks of heavy packed snow and ice left by the plow trucks.
