Snowmobile trailer groomer trouble (Cummins)

I also have a Dodge 5.9 24 valve 2001 model with Bosch VP44 injector pump. I believe the 2004 models are common rail fuel system, but may be wrong there. On Dodges, there is an APPS (accelerator pedal position sensor) that reads throttle position and can lead to "dead pedal" issues, if I understand it correctly. You might want to research and check that as well. There is lots of very knowledgeable folks on Dodge Cummins Forum who are willing to help.

A scan tool with live data would get you to a fix far faster than anything else.

What kind of groomer?

I would be a little hesitant about going over everything. Sometimes you can create new problems. I have done enough troubleshooting and I try and never disturb anything that's not broken. I have seen way too many factory made connections being replaced with cheap crimp splices, electrical tape and even marretts!

Did you say if the lift pump was electric or driven off the engine? I had had electric lift pumps fail intermittently.

I have also never had a fuel, filter type issue that wasn't worse under load and mostly OK at idle or light load.

We just went through so much grief with our 97 Cummins powered Tucker due to the extreme cold causing fuel issues. Once we got it in and warmed up and added some kerosene, all seems OK. Not saying this is your problem based on your symptoms, but many diesel issues are fuel related.

We do not bring our machines back to Cooks/ Getsno unless absolutely needed. Find a good local truck mechanic, many work on Tuckers regularly. There is also a mobile mechanic that worked for Cooks which would be cheaper than trucking your machine there, assuming they are your dealer.

If its like the trucks its a common rail. I owned a 2004 Dodge with a Cummins but I'm a little vague with my memory. Like mentioned above some had a APPS and it was about 2004 they went to the TPS I think. They are both known for causing a problem. Also where everything plugs into the bottom of the fuse block was a known problem area, getting where some wire won't make a good connection but I have no idea if you application has the same or a similar setup. My truck for sure had no EGR system.

wow I didn't know this thread got so many hits! It's a 04 tucker... getsno suggested we replace the peddle- did that and its still acting the same. It's an electric lift pump.

I'm on the groomer page but thanks for suggesting it!

we had a local guy run his computer on it and says its the twisted pair leaving the foot peddle to the ecu.... I found a loose screw holding the plug to the ecu so I ran it this morning and the warmer it gets the more it acts up- mostly when going downhill. I wish I could get to the plugs under the center console to ring them out but that's proving to be a pita.

I'm with you toy's- I've seen way too many hacked harnesses to start hacking and slashing... I usually buy the right tools for the job and if I have to do a splice I do it so it lasts- at the very least solder or quality crimps with a real crimpers and marine grade shrink.
