Snowplow VS FEL bucket

We use the plow on the front for snowfalls up to 4-5 inches and have a rear blower for large snowfalls. The blade arrangement in the picture worked very well last winter and I had no problems with snow overflowing from the blade into the bucket.
There are 4 pins to pull to demount the bucket and the dealer matches the mounts on the Curtis blade to your particular bucket width and then welds them in place. For full functionality, you need aux hydraulics for angling the blade. I do not have them and decided to set the vertical angle of the blade using the dump hydraulics on the controller and then I unplug those lines and plug in the plow angle lines. This worked OK but the weight of the blade is substantial for the tractor. I do not have a QA bucket.

I don't have a quick attach either. My bucket mounts with 4-1" pins w/ E-clips. I went to TSC and bought 4-1" pins and hairpin to replace them. Then I welded 8 pieces of C channel w/ 1" holes in them to an old 7' truck blade I had laying around. Now come winter I drive the bucket into the garage, pull 4 pins and attach the 7' blade in place of the bucket. 7' straight blade moves snow faster than the 5' bucket. That usually lasts till mid Feb. when the snow banks I plowed are then about 12'-14' high. I then switch back to the bucket to move the banks. I also have a 3 pt. 64" Puma snowblower I keep on back for weight and occassional use. Pulling 4 pins and switching from bucket to blade takes about 5 min.

After a summer putting on only a total of 55 hours on this new tractor, I am ready and waiting for the snow...
My scraper blade is a dissapointment (way too weak)... I've looked at my old 7' fisher snowboard for months and am finally doing something with it..
I bought a bobcat attachment plate (blank) and am building a setup so I can simply drive up to this plate and use the big fisher blade.
This year I will not bother with power angle.
The plate will have the spring pins from an old truck plow frame welded to it. The top of the plate will simply have a chain hook welded so I can use curl to raise and lower the blade as needed.
My hope are high but I'll have little invested if the idea goes sour...
I'll post photos when it is working.
(and for those who recall my last winter 'incident', I have an amber rotator going on the roll bar with flood lights... )

I'm a little surprised that so many in VT resort to plow blades on their FEL. I live next to a ski resort in north central VT. We get a LOT of snow, but never more than the combination of my rear blade and FEL could handle.

No sideways stress during normal use. Using the power angle is just like on a pickup. There are skid shoes on both ends of the blade and you can adjust each height separately with a series of washers.
It is not a quick attach- you pull the 4 pins that attach the bucket, remove it and then re-pin when you drive up to the blade. It works quite well as long as the blade and tractor are level when you hook up.
I have just over $1,700 into it and new retails for $1,950

Ditto..I live in the Monadnock region. Just put a 96" Hawkline HD rear grading blade on my new Farm Pro 8240 ($575 delivered). With the FEL and the blade angled and extending 12" outside the right rear tire I can push and plow a small mountain of snow. I tried plowing with a snowplow fixed to the bucket of my old Belarus exactly !once!. What a waste of time.........
